2nd Annual Riverside Veterans Parade Fundraiser Car Show
Patriotism, Community, and Classic Chrome at the Elks Lodge
Before the sun even rose over Riverside, volunteers were already hard at work preparing for the 2nd Annual Veterans Parade Fundraiser Car Show at the Riverside Elks Lodge #643. The team, including members of the Veterans Parade Committee and Elks volunteers, set up tables, tents, and registration areas in the cool morning air. Alessandro Heights residents Kimberly Perry managed registration, while this year’s Parade Chairman, Erik Perry, directed the event setup. And once again, yours truly served as DJ and MC for the day, keeping the energy high and the crowd entertained.
As dawn broke, the rumble of engines filled the air. One by one, a stunning lineup of classic cars rolled in—Chevy Bel Airs from every era, Ford pickups, Barracudas, Mercurys, and the unmistakable gold Cadillac DeVille driven by another Alessandro Heights resident, Dennis Morgan. Patriotic pride was on full display, led by Ken Benner and his American flag-bearing truck.
This annual event serves as a major fundraiser to support the Riverside Veterans Parade; an honored tradition celebrating the city’s rich military history and those who have served. Guests took part in raffles for themed gift baskets, a wheelbarrow of assorted spirits, and even a special raffle sponsored by Doug Shepherd and his Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate team, featuring a beautiful American flag and blanket.
The morning officially began with the National Anthem, beautifully performed by local singer Andrea. From there, the lot buzzed with conversation, laughter, and admiration as car enthusiasts and community members strolled between rows of gleaming vehicles. The aroma of grilled burgers soon filled the air, courtesy of the Elks Lodge crew, and when the day warmed up, many retreated into the lounge for a cool drink and good company.
As the afternoon came to a close, it was time for the awards, always a highlight of the event. In keeping with tradition, the trophies were one-of-a-kind: giant aluminum dog tags, complete with chains, designed and fabricated by longtime supporter and former Parade Chairman Jeff Crumbaker. Each one stood as a proud symbol of both craftsmanship and gratitude to those who served.
The 2nd Annual Riverside Veterans Parade Fundraiser Car Show was more than just a gathering of classic cars. It was a celebration of community, service, and remembrance. Thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported the cause, our city continues to carry forward its proud tradition of honoring our veterans in true Riverside style.
