A resident captured this striking photo of a snake basking on the rocks beside the stream in The Dell. 

While an unexpected sight for many, snakes are a natural part of Atlanta's urban ecosystem and play an important role in helping control rodent populations. 

Most snakes found in our area are nonvenomous, but it's always best to admire wildlife from a respectful distance and never attempt to handle or disturb it.
