Since moving to Ardsley Park in September 2021—when Covid masks were still part of daily life—Sandra Dutton and her husband Wayne Sheridan have embraced the neighborhood with open arms. Nestled on East 50th Street, Sandra’s world is filled with art, storytelling, and the joyful chaos of visits to see their four sons and eight grandchildren across New York and Virginia.
A native of Springfield, Missouri, and raised in Cincinnati, Sandra’s journey has taken her from California to Maine and now to Savannah, where she paints, writes, and finds creative inspiration just steps from her front door.
Sandra is both an accomplished writer and visual artist. She’s authored seven children’s books, including her newest release, A Wheelchair That Flies, a heartwarming story of a baseball-loving boy in a wheelchair and a fairy godmother with lots to learn. Her illustrations—light, whimsical, and full of life—contrast beautifully with her larger acrylic paintings, often rendered in vivid series like Savannah’s street performers or nostalgic sepia portraits under cerulean skies.
Her work has been shown at Taylor Gallery, Gallery Espresso, and even Savannah’s airport, and has earned first-place honors in local exhibitions. When not painting in her 50th Street studio or hosting book launches at Coffee Deli, Sandra is out in the neighborhood connecting with the warm, dog-walking, stroller-pushing community she calls home.
Sandra’s art can be seen locally at Coffee Deli, and neighbors might even be lucky enough to snag a commissioned piece. From pen-and-watercolor fairytale illustrations to vibrant, award-winning canvases, Sandra Dutton is truly one of Ardsley Park’s creative gems.
