Meet Schatzker and Fig, the Real-Life Teddy Bears!

Neighbors Ali and Paul knew they wanted a pup and began researching different breeds when they discovered an article featuring Cavapoochons, known as the "Teddy Bear Breed" for their exceptional disposition and temperament. They instantly fell in love and reached out to a breeder to welcome home the sweet pup they named Schatzker. With Paul working in orthopedics, Schatzker bears a unique name inspired by a tibial plateau fracture classification, though given its challenging pronunciation, he's also fondly known as Checkers.
When Paul first decided he wanted another dog, Ali wasn't immediately on board. However, while searching for their new Savannah home, their real estate agent Chelsea Phillips convinced Ali that Schatzker needed a companion. That Christmas, Ali surprised Paul with Fig. The name holds special meaning for Ali, drawn from cherished childhood memories of checking on a fig tree with her grandfather after school. Living in Connecticut meant modest harvests, with squirrels claiming most of the fruit. Ali and her grandfather would share the few figs they managed to save, making it the perfect name for her feisty little pup.
Schatzker is incredibly sweet and loves to cuddle with Ali and Paul on the couch. He adores playing fetch, going for walks and car rides, and is completely obsessed with water of any kind, though he won't actually swim. He simply loves being splashed and staying near water. As a frequent flyer, he accompanied Ali on many trips before Fig joined the family. He's traveled throughout the United States and has even earned his Delta Wings!
Fig, on the other hand, is a little Sour Patch Kid: sour at first, then sweet once she gets to know someone. When she's not relaxing in the sun, she serves as the house guard dog from her perch on the back of the couch, keeping watch over the neighborhood. She also has a vendetta against the mail. The moment it comes through the slot, she attempts to shred it to pieces! Ali shares, "She surprised us when we welcomed our daughter, Emerson. She's become a little mother's helper, always standing by during night feeds, tummy time, and diaper changes. Not to mention she's on paci patrol, always finding the missing pacifier."
Both pups are wonderful snugglers who enjoy running and playing in the backyard or fetching their favorite toys. Schatzker treasures his elephant and tiger, while Fig prefers an alligator twice her size.
Every summer, Ali and Paul vacation with the pups on an island in Southwest Florida. With no roads or cars, Fig and Schatzker can run freely off-leash on the beach, showing overjoyed anticipation from the moment they arrive. Ali says these vacations create some of their most treasured memories with Fig and Schatzker, drawing them back to their special spot year after year.
