Opposites Attract!
When it comes to Birdie and Pepper, opposites attract (or at least figure out how to get along eventually.)
Birdie is a sweet, gentle and delicate 13 year old Collie mix and Pepper is a 3 year old English Cocker Spaniel or “fun-loving tank” as his mom lovingly describes him.
Birdie was adopted from a rescue group in Miami Florida when she was only 6 weeks old and she gave her new human family quite a scare when she fell sick almost as soon as they brought her home. She had an illness called babesia and it was believed to be contracted from her mother while she was still in the womb. Poor little Birdie was so sick that she had to have a blood transfusion, but she made a full recovery and her family is forever grateful to the wonderful veterinarians that saved her life! Birdie was such a tiny puppy that she would curl up and sleep around her family’s neck. As she grew up, she traded in naps for a frisbee and would catch it for as long as someone was willing to throw it to her. Birdie helped to welcome her human baby sister home from the hospital after she was born and has traveled with the family all over the place.
Pepper joined the family 10 years later from a farm in Georgia and he was intended to be Birdie’s “mini me” and best little buddy, however the dogs couldn’t have been more different from each other in every way. Despite being total opposites, they eventually found their groove and one thing they do have in common is they are both very fast, and they love to run around the yard or dog park together. They also enjoy a brisk walk to Daffin or Guckenheimer Park and never miss the chance to stop and say hello to their canine bestie Bran who lives on their block. Birdie is very picky when it comes to her food and treats, while Pepper will eat anything you put in front of him. Pepper's most unique quirk is that he loves to grab a shoe in his mouth before greeting you at the door and then promptly runs away with said shoe in tow. Birdie likes to show you how much she loves you with a big hug.
