"Honey Baked" Ham - for a fraction of the price!
Gathering friends and family around the table during the holidays is a cherished tradition, and there's nothing quite like the centerpiece of a beautifully glazed ham to bring everyone together. But why spend nearly $200 on a store-bought honey-baked ham when you can create your own delicious version at home for a fraction of the cost? With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can impress your loved ones with a flavorful, mouthwatering ham that tastes just as good—if not better—than the pricey options. Let’s dive into this easy recipe that won’t break the bank while still making you the star of the feast!
Ingredients:
1, 10lb Spiral-Cut Bone-In Ham (these are usually pre-cooked, but don’t worry... It’s worth it)!
⅓ Cup honey
½ Cup pineapple juice
For the Seasonings:
½ Cup brown sugar
½ Cup white sugar
¼ tsp seasoned salt
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp paprika
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp allspice
For the glaze
The drippings
¼ Cup pineapple juice
Directions:
Combine the honey and the ½ cup of pineapple juice and mix until smooth. Pour over the spiral ham in a deep baking dish and make sure you spread the folds to get all the liquid encompassed.
Cook at 350 for an hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Add all the seasonings to a bowl until well combined. Remove the ham from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
Drain the drippings into a separate mixing bowl and allow to cool completely.
Gently pack half of the seasonings into all the folds of the ham, ensuring that all the folds have some. Don’t be afraid to really “get up in there” to get the most flavor per slice.
Broil, uncovered, the newly-packed hame on the oven for 10 mins, max, keeping a constant eye to make sure it isn’t burning.
While that is broiling, in a saute’ pan, combine the drippings with the remaining half of the spices and the additional ¼ cup of pineapple juice. Reduce until it is thickened and resembles a glaze.
When the ham is out of the broiler, gently pour the glaze over the ham and serve.
There you have it! With a little effort and creativity, you can create a magnificent honey-baked ham that feels luxurious but only costs about $30. Perfect for holiday gatherings, family dinners, or any occasion where good food brings joy, this homemade version will leave your guests raving and your wallet intact. So go ahead, gather your loved ones, slice into that beautifully glazed ham, and enjoy the delicious results of your hard work. Happy cooking!
