Creating Homes and Spreading Hope: The Mission of Knock Knock Angels Colorado

In a world where many people take for granted having a safe and comfortable place to call home, there are those who struggle daily to create that reality for themselves and their families. Knock Knock Angels Colorado is on a heartfelt mission to bridge this gap, focusing especially on some of the most vulnerable members of our community: previously homeless veterans and teen mothers.

Founded in 2022 by compassionate souls, including myself as a co-founder, our organization is dedicated to transforming empty houses into warm, personalized homes filled with essential furniture and household items. At the core of our mission lies a belief that everyone deserves a space where they can feel safe, celebrated, and loved. This belief is not just a mantra; it’s the driving force behind every effort we make. We understand that merely providing shelter is not enough. A home transcends four walls; it is a sanctuary where individuals and families can heal, reconnect, and thrive.

Our goal is to ensure that those who have experienced homelessness get the opportunity to turn an empty space into a vibrant home that reflects their identity and aspirations. The journey of establishing Knock Knock Angels Colorado began with a deep personal drive. Before our focus turned to our local community, we had been involved in charitable work in Juarez, Mexico, honoring the memory of my son Nick, who tragically lost his life in a car accident. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to halt our previous activities, we sought a new calling—something impactful we could do closer to home. This led to the inception of Knock Knock Angels Colorado, driven by the desire to support those around us who are in desperate need of assistance.

One of our first challenges was establishing a referral source for veterans—a daunting task that initially left us somewhat lost. Surprisingly, this essential step was more complicated than we anticipated. But rather than becoming disheartened, we persisted in building relationships and networking within our community. Eventually, we developed a solid connection with the VA housing program, allowing us to reach the veterans who needed our support the most.  What we discovered through this work was heart-wrenching yet enlightening. Many veterans who had experienced homelessness faced overwhelming challenges when trying to settle into permanent housing. The harsh reality is that an empty home can be a demoralizing and stressful environment, particularly for those recovering from homelessness. Each time we helped furnish a house—a comfortable bed, a functioning kitchen, vibrant decor—it brought a palpable change to the residents' lives.

Home is not just about functionality; it’s a foundation that fosters stability and hope. Especially touching are the stories we hear from our clients. A mother who tears up as she shares how her first-ever couch has brought her family together for movie nights, or a veteran who speaks proudly about the dignity that comes with having a decorated space filled with personal touches. Each narrative reinforces why we do what we do and serves as a beacon of hope not just for the individuals we help but also for our entire community. Our organization runs entirely on the generosity of volunteers. It is the heart and soul of Knock Knock Angels Colorado.

Our dedicated team of volunteers helps in numerous ways, including furniture makeovers, collecting donations, organizing and managing our storage facility, and engaging in invigorating fundraising activities. We also thrive on social media, sharing stories that draw attention to our mission and inspire others to get involved. We are particularly excited about our upcoming Gala on October 3rd, an event that promises to be an enjoyable evening while furthering our initiative. We invite all community members to join us—to share an evening filled with hope, kindness, and camaraderie, contributing to the mission of helping others create not just a space but a home.

One of the most fulfilling parts of this work is watching as our efforts create a ripple effect within the community. Community support plays a crucial role in everything we do. When residents come together to donate furniture, funds, or time, they are not merely giving items; they are offering opportunities, creating new beginnings, and igniting dreams.  We work closely with local businesses to gather donated items, and we are continuously seeking partnerships to enhance our efforts. Support from the community allows us to keep our operations running smoothly, ensuring that every piece of furniture and essential item we provide reaches those who need it most. Every small act of kindness contributes to a larger movement of love and support that shines brightly during turbulent times. The road ahead is filled with opportunities to expand our impact, but we can't do it without your help. We are always looking for volunteers who want to partake in this fulfilling journey—whether on the frontline during home makeovers, helping with logistics, or bringing joy to our fundraising events. Everyone has something to offer, and we would love to welcome new faces and fresh ideas into our fold.

At Knock Knock Angels Colorado, we believe that when one person rises, we all rise. We invite everyone—individuals, families, and businesses—to join us in transforming the lives of those in need within our community. Together, we can lay the foundation for a brighter future, ensuring that everyone has a place they can call home.
