Meet the Ownbeys: Building Community in BackCountry

In our picturesque neighborhood in the expanse of Highlands Ranch, the Ownbey family has become an integral part of  BackCountry. Stacey and her husband, Aaron, have woven themselves into the fabric of this community, bringing their commitment to family and connection wherever they go. Stacey, a co-founder of Your GO to Home Team, and Aaron, the VP of Engineering for Cloudbeds, are proud parents to two vibrant kids: Ellie, 12, and Ezra, 11.

Their journey began in Chicago, where they lived during their twenties, before spending over a decade in Los Angeles. Four and a half years ago, they made the leap to BackCountry, seeking a safer, more nurturing environment for their children, a place that embodies the childhood experiences they cherished. “We wanted our kids to have the opportunity to play outside and have that sense of community,” Stacey shares. “In our neighborhood, kids can walk up to each other’s doors and ask if they want to hang out. It’s that feeling of connection that we wanted for Ellie and Ezra.”

The Ownbeys found their way to BackCountry after Stacey realized that she ached for a true community lifestyle. “I grew up in multiple places, Virginia, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, California, but of all the places I’ve lived, Colorado feels like home.” Stacey’s educational background includes a Business Administration degree from Indiana University with a minor in Math, where she and Aaron first crossed paths, albeit in separate social circles. “We had a couple of business classes together and ran into each other at the gym, but it wasn’t until we both ended up in Chicago that we truly connected.”

Their lives converged once again in a bar, just blocks from where they both lived. “We discovered we even went to the same high school. It’s one of those small-world stories that you hear about!” Now, with their roots firmly planted in BackCountry, the Ownbeys have become community-oriented, and their love for the area is evident. “What really stands out about BackCountry is the strong sense of community. We make it a point to engage with our neighbors, whether it’s at the clubhouse, the pool, or simply out on walks,” Stacey explains, her enthusiasm palpable.

Ellie and Ezra embody the spirit of the neighborhood just as much as their parents do. Ellie has dedicated herself to club volleyball, showcasing a strong work ethic, while Ezra enjoys exploring various sports, from soccer to basketball, and even golf this year. “You never really know what he’s going to take an interest in next!” Stacey laughs. The family also shares their home with Rollo, their golden-doodle, who has quickly become a beloved member of the family. “When we moved here, the kids were adamant we could finally have a dog. They adore him, and he even rotates sleeping with them at night!”

Beyond family life, Aaron has established a niche in the local biking community, “He’s built a great group of biking buddies. On top of that, he’s the go-to tech support for the neighborhood,” Stacey adds with a grin. Meanwhile, Stacey’s passion lies in community building. “People often tell me that I have an outgoing personality. I love getting folks together, whether it’s for casual gatherings or larger community events,” she says. As a family, the Ownbeys embrace the idea of experiences over material gifts. “For special occasions, we plan activities we can enjoy together, whether it’s hiking, skiing, or exploring a new city. It’s all about making memories,” Stacey notes. One of Stacey’s favorite spots is the local coffee shop. “It’s such a great place to catch up with friends and neighbors. Plus, I love Campus Lounge; Tyler is fantastic there!” she says.

The summer pool is another highlight for the Ownbeys, where they enjoy winding down with takeout after a day in the sun. Community involvement is a priority for the Ownbeys, and they strive to participate in neighborhood events, even as their children juggle sports. “When the kids were younger, we were everywhere for kid-focused activities! Now that they are a bit older, we do our best to still attend clubhouse events and neighborhood gatherings,” she shares. This summer, they are particularly excited to sponsor the pool opening event. “It’s a great way to bring everyone together and foster that sense of neighborly connection we all love,” Stacey explains. They frequently organize events like casual bike rides and pool days, aiming to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels included. “I truly enjoy walking around the neighborhood and running into familiar faces. The views here are stunning, and we actively use the back trails for family bike rides,” she shares.

When asked about their favorite family memories, Stacey reflects, “It’s hard to pick just one. Every family dinner, game night, and outdoor adventure blends into why we love it here.” While the community is filled with amazing families and businesses, Stacey takes pride in her role with Your GO to Home Team. “It’s so rewarding to support families in our neighborhood and help them find their homes,” she says. “We’re not just running a business; we’re contributing to a community that we love and are invested in.”

As for advice for newcomers to BackCountry, Stacey emphasizes the importance of getting connected. “Dive in! Attend local events, introduce yourself to neighbors, or join the clubhouse activities. There’s a warmth here that’s easy to become a part of,” she encourages. In closing, Stacey captures the heart of what makes BackCountry special: “It’s about connection. It’s the relationships we build, the memories we create, and the community spirit that thrives here.” The Ownbeys represent the essence of what it means to be part of a community: supporting one another, fostering relationships, and creating a shared sense of belonging. As residents of BackCountry, they are living proof that with a little heart and a lot of enthusiasm, anyone can create a home filled with warmth and love.
