Every spring, Percy Warner Park transforms into something uniquely Nashville. On May 9, more than 35,000 spectators poured through the gates of the 85th Iroquois Steeplechase for a day that had everything: world-class racing, Southern hospitality, show-stopping fashion, and the kind of community spirit that makes this event one of the most cherished traditions in Belle Meade and beyond.

The weather cooperated, the crowds showed up in record numbers, and the racing delivered. Zabeel Champion, owned by Sean Clancy of Riverdee Stable and trained by Jack Fisher, surged to victory in The Calvin Houghland Iroquois, the day's featured race, claiming the top share of a record-setting $730,000 total purse.

But ask most attendees what the day is really about, and the answer goes well beyond the finish line. The Iroquois Steeplechase has raised more than $12 million for Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt since 1981, and this year's record turnout only adds to that legacy.

"This event is about much more than racing," said Dwight Hall, Chairman of the Iroquois Steeplechase. "It's about community, philanthropy, and preserving an experience that generations of families have enjoyed together."

Guests celebrated with live music on The Big 98 Stage, spirited tailgating, the annual Style Contest, and the always-crowd-pleasing Stick Pony Races. It was, by every measure, a perfect spring day in Nashville.
