Princess Leia: Belleair’s Little Royalty With a Big Personality
Meet the seven-pound Siamese sweetheart who has captured her family’s hearts—and occasionally interrupts their sleep!
Every neighborhood has its share of royalty, but in Belleair, one very special princess rules her household with beautiful blue eyes, a tiny frame, and a personality much bigger than her seven pounds.
Meet Princess Leia, an 11-year-old Lynx Point Siamese who has been charming the Sheehan family since she was just seven months old.
Rebecca Sheehan and her family moved into their Belleair home two years ago, arriving on a rather unforgettable day—the day Hurricane Helene came through town! Despite their dramatic introduction to the neighborhood, the family quickly fell in love with their new community.
“We lovingly refer to Belleair as ‘the best small town in America,’” Rebecca shares. “Every time we drive home along Bayview, it feels like we’re coming home to a little tucked-away slice of paradise.”
And waiting at home is their very own little princess.
A Princess Is Born
Princess Leia’s story began at a local animal shelter, where Rebecca occasionally volunteered, caring for and socializing cats awaiting their forever homes. One day, a tiny seven-month-old kitten caught her attention. “She was the tiniest, prettiest little cat I’d ever seen,” Rebecca recalls. “I knew she’d be the perfect addition to our family!” At the shelter, the kitten was simply called Princess. But the boys in the family thought that sounded a little too fancy. Their solution? Add a little Star Wars inspiration!
And just like that, Princess became Princess Leia—a name fit for a feline with a royal attitude and a little intergalactic flair.
Forever Young
Although Leia is now 11 years old, you would never know it by looking at her. At just seven pounds, she still resembles a kitten. “She’s a bit like Peter Pan,” Rebecca laughs. “She just never seems to grow up!”
Her striking Siamese coloring, delicate tabby stripes, and brilliant blue eyes make her especially photogenic. She also inherited an endearing Siamese characteristic: slightly crossed eyes, which only add to her irresistible charm. But don't let her dainty appearance fool you. Princess Leia is a fierce hunter—at least when it comes to her favorite toy. Forget expensive cat toys or the latest pet-store gadgets. Leia remains devoted to an old red-and-green toy mouse she received for Christmas years ago. She proudly hunts her beloved mouse around the house, announcing each successful expedition with enthusiastic, ear-piercing meows. Unfortunately, her preferred hunting hour is often 3 a.m.!
A Princess With a Heart of Gold
For all her playful antics, Leia also has an incredibly tender side.
One of Rebecca’s favorite memories came when the family brought their newborn daughter home from the hospital. Leia immediately approached the baby, gently sniffing and nuzzling her, almost as though she understood that someone very special had joined the family. It was a beautiful moment that reminded everyone just how loving their little princess could be.
Today, Princess Leia continues to bring laughter, affection, and the occasional sleepless night to her Belleair household. She may not command a galaxy far, far away, but in the Sheehan home, there's no question who wears the crown.
And may the paws be with her!
