BVRC School Projects Committee presented Cooleemee Elementary School with a check for $10,285 to fund school supplies for the year.
The Bermuda Village Retirement Community (BVRC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting local students in a big way. On September 3, the BVRC School Projects Committee presented Cooleemee Elementary School with a check for $10,285 to fund school supplies for the year.
The presentation was made by Dr. Joyce Jones, chair of the committee, to Cooleemee’s principal, Angie Burgess. Principal Burgess expressed her heartfelt appreciation, noting,
“This kindness of Bermuda Village reminds us that we are not alone in this journey of educating our children, but surrounded by a community that shares in our mission: Learn, Lead, Serve and Shine. Thank you so much!”
This year’s contribution marks a 56 percent increase over the 2024 campaign, reflecting the generosity of BVRC residents. The School Projects Committee—comprised of Ginny Davies, Pat Ely, Elaine Graybeal, Joyce Jones, Nancy Lewis, Kim O’Dell, and Marlene Schang—extends its gratitude to all who made the effort possible.
And the giving doesn’t stop here. The committee is already preparing its next initiative, scheduled for spring. The focus will be on raising funds to purchase five books for every student to take home and read over summer break. With only 40 percent of students currently reading at or above grade level, the hope is to maintain and strengthen students’ reading abilities over the summer. The theme for the campaign comes from a student’s simple but powerful words: “I NEVER OWNED A BOOK BEFORE.”
