Another Win For The Good Guys
Samaritan Ministries Administrator with Keith Huskins, Andy Hansen, Pat Newman, Jack Newman and David Forbes
If you read STROLL ( and who doesn’t!) you’ve seen a couple of articles about the Bermuda Run West Brotherhood of Charity… the guys who play golf on Monday mornings after chipping $10 each into the “pot.” The original idea was that the winning foursome would pocket all the money, but thanks to a great idea by the organization’s chairman that money soon went to better use.
Neil Brennan came up with the idea that maybe the winners would want to donate some or (usually) all their winnings to a worthy cause. First thing you know, almost no one was taking their winnings but instead donated them to the organization. It was more fun to needle, tease and laugh with each other than pocketing a few bucks. Then Neil and other members of the golf committee decided to organize a golf tournament in 2024 and another this year.
How did that turn out? Thanks to the golf committee’s hard work and excellent leadership the field was soon filled. Help came from tournament sponsors, hole sponsors, gift and food contributors, donors, volunteers and the Bermuda Run Country Club support staff. The event netted over $16,700 for the Brotherhood’s 2025 Charitable Fund. As a result, the Brotherhood was able to donate nearly $20,000 to those in need this year. Here are some of the charities that received funds from the Brotherhood in 2025.
Baptist on Mission – Storehouse for Jesus -Clemmons Food Pantry -Toys for Tots - Crisis Control Ministry – Watchmen of the Streets – Dragon Fly House – Weekends with Warriors – Our Daily Bread – Yadkin Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Samaritans Ministry -Humane Society of Davie County.
The Brotherhood owes Neil Brennan a special thanks for his efforts above and beyond the call of duty; he organizes and oversees the weekly golf matches and is the driving force behind the annual tournament. Thanks, Neil; we couldn’t have done it without you.
The Brotherhood is looking forward to hosting the 2026 Brotherhood of Charity Tournament coming June 3rd of next year. We hope you’ll partner with us to make next year’s tournament an even greater success!
