Show me….THE MONEY!
Some of the men (Mark Hess, Andy Hansen and Walt Myers) presenting the check to A Storehouse for Jesus
Most of us remember that line from the old movie “Jerry Maguire” with Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr. Gooding played a professional athlete and his agent – played by Cruise – was negotiating a new contract for him. “Show me the money!” was Gooding’s response to Cruise’s proposals.
You may remember an article or two in past issues about the men’s Monday morning golf game at Bermuda Run West… the one where everyone puts $10 into the pot and the teams are selected at random. The winning team was supposed to split the pot, but somewhere along the way things changed.
What was the change? The players decided to support some local charities and began to donate a portion (often all) of the pot to a fund for that purpose. The group adopted the name “Bermuda Run West Brotherhood of Charity.”
The group hoped to raise and donate $10,000 in 2024 from the players’ weekly donations to the pot and from a golf tournament at Bermuda Run West. The tournament was a success thanks to strong support from the community. In fact, the annual goal of $10,000 was exceeded and $14,000 was raised.
Now it’s time to show YOU the money! Since beginning the program, the men have raised and donated over $30.000.00!!! Here’s where $13,500 raised this year has gone…
Samaritan’s Purse for Hurricane Helene relief - $7000.00
Community Vision Fund - $500.00
Baptists on Mission for Hurricane Helene relief - $1750.00
Storehouse for Jesus - $1000.00
Yadkin Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes - $1000.00
Crisis Control Ministry - $750.00
Our Daily Bread (Episcopal Church ministry) - $500.00
Toys for Tots - $500.00
Clemmons Food Pantry - $500.00
The group may be able to make further donations this year and will participate in the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Toy Drive. If you see a fundraiser by this group, please consider participating. Your money will be well spent.
