A Gathering Place

Matt Cohen’s Mosaic Cafe is more than a breakfast and lunch destination.

Owner of Mosaic Cafe & Coffee House Matt Cohen has successfully steered his business through a pandemic and a devastating hurricane. If you’re a regular and Matt knows you by name, you won’t be surprised to learn that his cafe was one of the first places people gathered and found a free Wi-Fi Internet connection the day after Hurricane Helene hit. Mosaic Cafe & Coffee House is the definition of community.

“We strive to make it a personal experience for everyone, and focus on customer relationships. I personally know about 300 regulars by name,” he says. Matt loves to talk with people and be creative with food. “I enjoy getting to know the people in the community,” Matt says. “My wife, Rhonda, and son, Gunnar, come in and help with catering deliveries. Gunnar is in a lot of my social media posts and he knows the regulars too.”

A stream of regulars come in for coffee and breakfast meetings, work lunches, family and friend lunch dates, and to grab something to eat while they work on their laptops inside or out.
Mosaic is open seven days a week and offers a special brunch menu on Sundays.

If you pass Mosaic Cafe during lunchtime hours, you will always find outside tables filled with people talking, eating and enjoying Asheville’s beautiful weather. Dogs can be found hanging out under those outside tables, creating a community hub feel.

Matt supports first responders and local schools as much as possible. He partners with local police for their Shop with a Cop program, sponsoring several kids a year to receive back-to-school supplies, outfits, jackets, shoes and toys. “All first responders and military personnel can come in and get free drinks anytime and a discount on food,” Matt says. “Both of my grandfathers served in the military. It’s always fun to give back to the community.”

Some customer favorites include their southwestern chicken wrap, overloaded salads, Cuban and muffuletta sandwiches. (If you love peanut butter, you must try Mosaic’s green smoothie!)

Mosaic Cafe & Coffee House offers catering and delivery for private parties, events, business gatherings and meetings. It also offers catering at local Airbnbs. “We deliver food within a 25-mile radius,” Matt says, adding, “I go way out there!”

Biltmore Park residents can walk to Mosaic Café, dine inside or dine outside and enjoy the sunshine in warmer weather. If you’re going to pop in for takeout, you can call ahead to order. Find Mosaic Cafe on EZcater to place your catering orders.
