For more than 40 years, Great Smiles Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics has been a trusted partner for families across Western North Carolina — helping children grow up with healthy, confident smiles and giving parents peace of mind every step of the way.

Founded by Dr. Bill Chambers, the practice began with a simple vision: Treat every child with warmth, gentle care and a genuine commitment to their well-being. From the beginning, families could feel the difference — and today, many of Dr. Bill’s original patients bring not just their children but even their grandchildren, a true testament to the trust built across generations.

What started as a single pediatric office has grown into five convenient locations, making it easier than ever for local families to access compassionate, specialized care close to home.

Being locally owned and operated has always been at the heart of Great Smiles. The team proudly supports the community through sponsorships like the Asheville Tourists, Soccer Shots and various local school events. But their commitment to kids goes beyond the dental chair — which is why they created the Partners in Education program, an initiative designed to directly support teachers and schools. Great Smiles believes nurturing healthy children begins with uplifting the people who raise and educate them.

This strong foundation allows Great Smiles to do what matters most: help kids feel at ease, support parents and build a community where every smile has a place to thrive.

Doctor Spotlight: Dr. Stephanie’s Unique Approach
As Great Smiles has grown, so has its commitment to evolving with the needs of local families. That mission is carried forward today by Dr. Stephanie Chambers, who honors her father’s legacy while bringing something uniquely her own.

Dr. Stephanie is one of the few doctors in the region trained in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics — a rare and valuable combination that allows her to care for children from their very first tooth through their teen years and braces. This dual specialty provides a level of continuity of care that truly sets Great Smiles apart.

“When I get to see patients from day one, I really get to know them and their unique needs,” says Dr. Stephanie. “It means I can prepare parents for what lies ahead and make it as easy and comfortable as possible.”

Dr. Stephanie works alongside her colleagues on the Great Smiles team — including pediatric dentists Dr. Bill Chambers, Dr. Doug Pratt, Dr. Stephen Chadwick, Dr. Jon Wyble and Dr. Laura Hogue, along with orthodontist Dr. Paul Blackman — across specialties to provide seamless, personalized care. This team-based approach ensures smooth transitions as children grow, consistent communication among providers and a unified experience for families.

It’s a model that helps kids build lasting trust, gives parents peace of mind and keeps care consistent — from early cleanings through orthodontic treatment — all under one familiar roof. Convenience is another major benefit. Across all Great Smiles locations, families appreciate the ability to coordinate cleanings and orthodontic adjustments on the same day — sometimes even for siblings or parents — helping busy families spend less time in waiting rooms and more time enjoying life together.

In a close-knit community like Western North Carolina, Dr. Stephanie’s dual training — combined with the experience and dedication of the entire Great Smiles team — ensures every child receives personalized, continuous and comprehensive care from people who truly care. It’s just one more reason families keep smiling with Great Smiles, generation after generation.
