Meet the Young Family

Finding Home in Community and Connection

When Glenn and Hollan Young moved to their home in Buena Vista a year and a half ago, it was both a return to familiar roots and an exciting new chapter for their family. After spending a decade in Raleigh, they decided that Winston-Salem—a city filled with family, history, and a strong sense of community—was the perfect place to raise their children. For Hollan, it felt like coming home, yet with fresh eyes as they explored and reconnected with the area.
Meet the Young Family
Glenn, originally from Shelby, NC, is a lifelong Tar Heel fan who attended UNC for his undergraduate degree in economics before earning his business degree from Wake Forest University. These days, he works in commercial real estate, providing asset management services for several developers, along with performing CFO responsibilities for Winston-Salem-based Hubbard Realty. In his spare time, Glenn enjoys playing golf, but his happiest moments are spent shooting hoops in the driveway with his kids or riding around his family farm in Waco, NC.
Hollan Rudolph Young grew up in Winston-Salem, surrounded by a large and close-knit family. She attended Summit School and later St. Mary’s School in Raleigh before heading to Ole Miss, where she earned a BS degree with a focus in hospitality. Now, she thrives in her career as a real estate broker with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, helping families find homes in a community she deeply loves. When she’s not working, Hollan enjoys long walks and talks with friends, summer weekends at Lake Norman, and cheering on her children in all their activities.
Glenn and Hollan first crossed paths in Charlotte in 2009, after college, meeting through mutual friends. Their shared love for family, adventure, and community laid the foundation for their life together.

Three Busy Kids & One Lovable Pup
The Young household is full of energy, thanks to their three children:
  • Glenn and Mack (10-year-old identical twin boys) are in fourth grade at Summit School. Their passion? Basketball—through and through. When they’re not on the court, they also enjoy soccer, swim team, and creating video projects, recently incorporating drone footage into their productions. Glenn’s favorite subject is math, while Mack has a love for design and technology.
  • Jane (5 years old) is wrapping up preschool at Knollwood Baptist Weekday School. She’s a budding dancer at Academy Dance Arts and loves gymnastics at Salem Swim & Gymnastics. For now, she happily takes on the role of "sideline sister," cheering on her brothers at their games.
  • The Youngs recently welcomed a new four-legged family member, Archie, a sweet and laid-back Cavapoo who has quickly become everyone’s best friend.
Family Fun & Traditions
As a family, the Youngs share a love for outdoor adventure. Whether they’re boating, skiing, tubing, paddleboarding, biking, or hiking, they’re always up for an active outing. And of course, watching UNC basketball together is a household tradition!
One of their most unique family traditions comes from Glenn’s childhood—each New Year’s Eve, they hide a few dollars outside, only to bring them back inside on New Year’s Day. This symbolizes a prosperous year ahead, with money “coming in” rather than going out. It’s a long-standing tradition, which has been passed down for as long as Glenn can remember, and holds special meaning to the Young family.
Holidays are a time of togetherness for the Youngs, especially now that both sets of grandparents live nearby. Being able to celebrate life’s milestones with family just a short walk away is something they don’t take for granted. This summer, they’re especially excited to attend the first-ever “Forever Young” Family Reunion in Charlotte, where 67 family members will gather to celebrate their shared history and connection.
When it comes to travel, the family loves spending a few weeks each summer on the Crystal Coast, soaking in the beauty of Atlantic Beach and Pine Knoll Shores. While that’s their go-to getaway, one of their most memorable vacations was visiting the Grand Canyon—an adventure their kids still talk about!

A Warm Welcome to New Neighbors
Since moving to Buena Vista, the Youngs have found joy in the simple things—seeing friendly faces out on neighborhood walks, kids riding bikes from house to house, and the strong sense of community that makes their street feel like home. They especially love the annual Oaklawn Halloween festivities and their street’s family potluck, which has been a great way to build lasting friendships.
For those new to the neighborhood, the Youngs offer this advice: You’ll feel welcome in no time! The constant activity, friendly neighbors, and strong sense of community will quickly make this place feel like home.
From cheering on their favorite sports teams together to walking and biking to Buie’s Market for popsicles and wine,  the Youngs have built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and meaningful connections.
And if you happen to see them out and about—whether on a family walk or shooting hoops in the driveway—be sure to say hello!
