James, Mallory, Mason and Kirklyn Millhorn

The Millhorn family—James, Mallory, their son Mason, and daughter Kirklyn—became Buffalo Creek residents in March after moving from their property east of Quinlan. North Texas natives, James grew up in Garland and Mallory in Forney. The couple met at a Halloween party in 2004 and married on August 26, 2006.

After high school, James took college courses while working in data entry but soon realized office work wasn’t for him. He joined a friend’s construction company, where he spent 15 years learning all aspects of running a business. In 2018, he took a leap of faith and partnered with a friend to start S&W Foundation in Rowlett, specializing in pier drilling and turnkey foundation solutions nationwide, with clients like Six Flags and Amazon. James is also a part-owner of ACE’s Welding and Fabrication, which focuses on commercial and residential metalwork.

Mallory discovered her calling early in life. After high school, she attended cosmetology school and enjoyed a 23-year career as a hairstylist, working at City Salon at the Harbor from 2014 until her retirement in February. She left her career to join her husband in his Christian-based men’s ministry—I Must Stand—a shared passion for both. As a mom of two teenagers, Mallory stays busy managing school and sports schedules, and in her free time, she enjoys pickleball, tennis, refurbishing furniture, and reading—especially the Bible and Bible studies.

James built I Must Stand on four pillars: Faith, Family, Body, and Business. The ministry provides a space for men to sharpen their vision, overcome limiting beliefs, and take full responsibility for their faith, family, health, and work. Mallory partners with wives and families, offering support and tools to help strengthen their faith and family life.

Both Mason and Kirklyn attend Dallas Christian School (DCS). Seventeen-year-old Mason is a junior and plays on the defensive line for the DCS Chargers—four-time state champions! He also enjoys soccer, golf, and tinkering with motorcycles and mini-bikes. Like his dad, he loves the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Mason has also shown interest in construction, starting a land-clearing company with a friend and working in welding with his dad over the summer.

Kirklyn, 14, is an eighth grader at DCS. Known as the family’s social butterfly, she’s also athletic, playing volleyball for both school and club teams, as well as basketball. She enjoys outdoor adventures like hunting and fishing with her family. Faith is central to her life—she leads her Bible study class at DCS. Kirklyn hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps by becoming a master hairstylist after high school.

Owning a business, leading a ministry, and raising two active teenagers keeps James and Mallory busy, but they always make time for family. The family often visits their East Texas property, now home to James’s parents, and enjoy traveling—especially for outdoor adventures. The mountains bring hiking, snowboarding, and skiing, while Mallory favors the sun and sand of the beach. James and Mallory also make time for date nights, often dining at the Oar House or enjoying Mallory’s favorite sushi at Kyoto’s.

Having grown up in the area, James and Mallory were already familiar with Rockwall and Heath. When they decided to move from East Texas to be closer to their children’s school, Buffalo Creek—recommended by friends and Buffalo Creek residents, the Granberrys—was at the top of their list. After viewing several homes, they found their forever home on Starlight Pass. They love their home on the golf course and often entertain family and friends in their backyard oasis. We’re excited to welcome the Millhorns, including Bodie, their adorable one-year-old King Charles Cavalier, to the neighborhood and wish them many wonderful memories ahead.
