Frenchie Kit Lily and Hovawart Hank – Aragon’s Dynamic Duo

Sleepy Head
In October 2019 we met Dottie Rose, the original Frenchie of Marilyn and Donny Aragon. Sadly, less than 2 years later, Dottie Rose crossed the rainbow bridge unexpectedly when she ate a poisonous lizard. She passed away in Marilyn’s arms within 20 minutes.
The trauma of losing Dottie Rose so unexpectedly hit the family hard. Marilyn was ready to bring in another fur-baby but Donny was reluctant. Coincidentally, a French Bull Dog breeder lived near Primrose School in Rowlett, the school owned and managed by the Aragons. The breeder had one Frenchie left from a litter and was desperate to place her. It was the perfect match! The Aragons brought her home in the fall of 2022.
Kit Lily is named as a tribute to Dottie Rose. Kit is the name of Dottie Hinson’s sister, the lead character in A League Of Their Own who Dottie was named after. Kit (the Frenchie’s) middle name Lily is an homage to the fact that Dottie Rose loved to float on the lily pads when at the lake. Kit, who will turn 3 on June 2, is a rare blue brindle Frenchie. She stays close to Marilyn, acting as her shadow everywhere she goes. She is just 13 pounds but has a big personality and a loud voice, throwing little tantrums when she is upset by shaking and throwing her toys in the air.
Busy work schedules over the past year meant that Kit was alone for much of the day. Marilyn decided to bring in a companion for Kit and rescued Hank, a Hovawart, in December from the Wylie Animal Shelter. Hovawarts are German sheepherders and known to be alert, intelligent and faithful. Hovawarts are excellent family dogs, bonding closely with the owner, making Hank an outstanding companion, watch, guard and rescue-dog. Named Harry by the shelter, Marilyn shortened it to Hank after Hank Williams.
Hank is thought to be 3 years old and is about 68 lbs. He has a beautiful black and brown coat and gleaming black eyes. Kit took to him immediately when he was brought home but Hank wouldn’t play—Kit was too small. Still, she would pester him incessantly, biting at his heels for attention. He finally stood up to her antics and now just ignores her. But when it’s time to nap or rest, they lay down together on Hank’s king-size doggie bed.
Both Kit and Hank look forward to their daily walks and occasional trips to the park where Hank likes to run and exercise with no one around. Both enjoy car rides. Kit does not swim (Frenchies are known to sink) so will only step out on the tanning step of the pool. The Hovawart breed is known to enjoy the water so Hank will likely take to the pool when the weather turns warmer. Both pups hang out with Marilyn when she is cooking, hoping a bite or two will drop from the counter. Marilyn tries not to feed them too much human food, although Kit will get chicken, rice and broth if her sensitive stomach is acting up.
Kit and Hank make an unlikely couple but they are the dynamic duo in the Aragon home. Big personalities, playful and loving, these two have brought happiness, joy and love to their forever home on Bridle Path Court.
