Meeting at a wedding is often a good sign, especially when mutual friends and family create an easy connection. That’s exactly how Dustin and Stephanie met in 1999. They’ve been together ever since, marrying two years later in 2001.

 

Dustin grew up in Mississippi, graduated from Mississippi State University in 1996, and has spent more than 20 years in the medical field. He is currently Vice President of Business Development for Fresenius Medical Care. Stephanie was raised in Louisiana, earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management from Louisiana Tech University in 2000, and was the Director of Health Information Management at Lake Pointe Medical Center for 10 years. Today Stephanie works for the Baylor Scott & White Health system supporting health information quality reporting.  

 

The Steens moved to the Metroplex in 2003 to be closer to Stephanie’s mother in Rockwall, where she has lived for more than 30 years. They first settled in Frisco but moved to Heath in 2008 after realizing the commute to Rockwall was becoming cumbersome. In August 2025, they relocated from Heath Crossing to Buffalo Creek, a neighborhood they had long admired for its amenities—especially the golf course, now visible from their outdoor patio and pool.

 

Dustin and Stephanie’s oldest son, Truit, is 22 and recently graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a degree in criminal justice. He is pursuing a career in federal law enforcement and is an avid golfer, having played since seventh grade, made varsity as a freshman at Rockwall Heath High School, and competed throughout college. He is familiar with the Buffalo Creek Golf Course, both as a player and from working there part-time during high school and college.

 

Keaton is 19 and a freshman at SMU, majoring in political science with plans to attend law school. An Eagle Scout and one of only 20 recipients of the Hunt Leadership Scholarship, he is a member of the SMU Senate and Mock Trial team and is known for his strong leadership skills. He has also been active in local politics for several years, founded a Turning Point chapter at Rockwall Heath High School, and is a member of Brothers under Christ fraternity at SMU.

 

Thirteen-year-old Berkley is an eighth grader at HCA, where history is her favorite subject and she serves on the Broadcast team for the school’s TV channel—Eagle TV. She is also a member of the National Charity League–Texas Starlight chapter, following in the footsteps of her brothers who participated in Boys Team Charity. Outside of school, Berkley is passionate about dance and is in her second year with HCA’s Rhythm Dancers, while also dancing competitively for Studio 323 in Rockwall, where she will perform her first solo later this year.

 

A family of strong faith, the Steens have been active members of Lake Pointe Church since 2008. Dustin and Stephanie participate in a life group, while Stephanie leads a small group of teenage girls, including Berkley, many of whom she has known since toddlerhood. Berkley also serves as a teacher for a small kindergarten group.

 

Golf played a major role in the family’s move to Buffalo Creek, and Dustin and Truit enjoy playing the Buffalo Creek Golf course whenever possible. Stephanie’s free time is largely spent supporting Berkley’s dance lessons, competitions, and church activities. As a family, the Steens love to travel.  Dustin and Stephanie try to make time for date nights, even if it’s simply dinner at their favorite Rockwall eatery, Zanata’s, after dropping Berkley off for dance practice.

 

Mini Goldendoodles Nala (8) and Bean (3) complete the Steen family—two sweet, adorable pups with personalities larger than life. We welcome the Steens to Buffalo Creek and wish them many years of happiness, love, and lasting memories in their new home.
