Giant Schnauzers are a special breed, a larger and more powerful version of the more common Standard Schnauzer. Described in the breed standard as a "bold and valiant figure of a dog," they are highly intelligent and loyal, making them well suited for guard, police, and military work.

Chris and Randy Sonnen have long been devoted to the Schnauzer breed. For years, they shared their neighborhood walks with four Miniature Schnauzers—Mr. Peterman, Elaine, Mortie, and Evie—named after Seinfeld characters. After three of their beloved companions passed, Giant Schnauzers Lucas and eventually Ryker joined the family as companions for Mortie, the last of the original four. Tragically, both Lucas and Ryker died from cancer at a young age.

That brings us to Emma and Sebastian. Emma joined the family before Ryker passed away, as schnauzers often thrive with a canine companion. She turned 2 in April. Eight months later, Sebastian—her brother from a different litter—found his forever home with the Sonnens. He will turn 2 in December. Still young with playful enthusiasm, Emma and Sebastian are beautiful examples of the Giant Schnauzer breed.

Although only eight months older and about 30 pounds lighter than Sebastian, Emma is the pair's alpha dog. She is described as dominant yet sweet and affectionate. Randy chose her name after researching German female names, fitting for her ancestry. Sebastian, at 110 pounds, is the gentle giant who insists on being Chris's lap dog. Goofy, playful, and full of puppy exuberance, he's described as a "typical boy" who is filled with boundless energy.

Emma and Sebastian get along well, though Chris admits their play sometimes includes a bit of sibling rivalry. Both are classic "velcro dogs," happiest when they're with Chris and Randy. They enjoy twice-daily walks with Randy--—early before golfers arrive and again in the evening after they leave—and love greeting neighbors on their walks or from the front yard. Emma loves the pool, while Sebastian is still testing the waters, venturing in only with his front paws, keeping his back feet firmly on the pool deck. Inside, they have a favorite spot in the front room where they can watch the neighborhood activity from the window.

To support healthy joints and shiny coats, Chris prepares most of Emma and Sebastian’s food from scratch. Their diet includes chicken with coconut oil and turmeric, chicken and beef liver, lean ground beef, brown rice, along with a small amount of kibble for crunch. They occasionally get a treat from the dinner table, but only after patiently waiting for Chris and Randy to finish their meal.

Loyal, protective, intelligent, and kind, Giant Schnauzers are an exceptional breed. With their glossy black coats and distinctive Schnauzer features, Emma and Sebastian embody those qualities and bring joy to their forever home on Starlight Pass with Chris and Randy.
