Welcome Home Brandi!

A new forever home and family for Brandi – the sweet Shih Tzu with a big personality.

Brad and sweet Brandi

We first met Brandi, Dave Millett’s sweet and lovable Shih Tzu, in August 2022 after Dave moved to Buffalo Creek from Gig Harbor, Washington, to be closer to his daughter Michelle. Then 7½ years old, Brandi was Dave’s constant companion—loyal, independent, frisky, and a wonderful watchdog. Recently, Dave, now in his early 90s and in declining health, moved to an assisted living facility. In response, neighbors Brad and Debbie Blome lovingly adopted Brandi. Now nearly 12 years old, Brandi will spend her golden years in her new forever home with Brad and Debbie.

Brad and Debbie had known Brandi as long as they had known Dave. Since Brandi occasionally escaped the yard, they often kept an eye out for her and came to her rescue more than once. When Dave moved to his assisted living apartment, the Blomes gladly cared for Brandi and later offered to adopt her—a welcome blessing for Michelle and her family. After being microchipped, registered with the city, and groomed for her new home, the paperwork was signed to make the adoption official.

Debbie echoed Dave’s description when asked to describe Brandi’s characteristics: she has a big personality, is independent, frisky, and an excellent watchdog. Now, more than two months after joining the Blome family, Brandi has settled in well to her new surroundings. Daily walks with Brad remain the highlight of her day. Because her small size makes her an escape artist, she stays on a leash in the backyard, where she enjoys lounging in the grass and watching birds and squirrels. Indoors, her favorite spot is by the window, where she keeps a watchful eye on deliveries, neighbors, and neighborhood activity.

When asked who Brandi favors, Debbie quickly says Brad—likely because he takes her on her daily walks. At mealtime, however, Debbie is clearly her favorite. Twice a day, Brandi lets Debbie know it’s mealtime with a little dinner dance!  Like Dave, the Blomes don’t feed Brandi human food, though she may occasionally get a small bite of cheese or a cracker. One of her favorite pastimes is chewing on ice, a habit she shared with the Blomes’ previous dog, Border Collie Tex, who crossed the rainbow bridge in February 2023.

Brad and Debbie Blome, Buffalo Creek residents since 2005, became close friends and neighbors of Dave, Michelle, and her family. Despite wandering from Michelle’s backyard to Dave’s front porch shortly after his move, Brandi is now lovingly settled in with her new family. We share Michelle’s gratitude to the Blomes for welcoming Brandi into their family and giving a beloved pet her forever home.
