Tom Reichart has a military history that spans four years of dedicated service in the United States Army. His journey is marked by his commitment to his country during active duty and his volunteer contributions after discharge from the military.

Tom's military service started in 1966 when he was drafted out of college. Upon entering the Army, he was selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS). In October 1967, he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. This marked the beginning of his transformation into a leader within the ranks.

His most impactful service took place during his deployment to Vietnam in August 1968, where he served as an Infantry Platoon Leader. Tom’s leadership and commitment to the welfare of his fellow soldiers earned him several awards, including the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Bronze Star, Vietnam Service, and Army Commendation medals.

After a year in Vietnam, Tom returned in August 1969 as a First Lieutenant and left the service. He resumed his college education, receiving a BS in Business Management from Eastern Illinois University in 1972. He met Sharon while stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and they were married soon after he returned from his tour of duty. He was hired by NCR Corporation out of college where he spent 32 years, followed by a second 14-year career in payments processing, and retired in 2019.

Family is an important part of Tom's life. He comes from a lineage of service, as his father was a World War II Navy veteran. In turn, Tom and Sharon have celebrated 54 years of marriage, and their family has grown with two children and grandchildren. Their daughter, Carrie Smola, resides in Hamilton Mill with her husband Bryan and their two boys, Evan (16) and Nathan (11). Their son, Shannon, along with his wife Jessica, lives in Fairhope, Alabama. Over the past six years, the Reicharts have cultivated strong bonds with a multitude of friends and neighbors in their community, making them feel like an extended family.

Tom's commitment to service extends beyond his military career. He, along with fellow residents Jeff and Rene Oldham, co-founded the CE Military Support Foundation along with about 30 residents. This charitable organization was born out of a chance meeting in their church's military support group at Hamilton Mill United Methodist. The foundation aims to assist veterans, provide resources, and navigate the complex VA system. Tom, Jeff, and Rene, along with a core committee of residents, have organized both an annual golf tournament and car show that raises funds for veterans' support and veterans' resource centers. The group just wrapped up the 4th Annual Car Show on October 8th.

Tom Reichart's journey in the military, love of family, and advocacy for veterans are a testament to his commitment to serving his country and community. His legacy serves as an inspiration to all as he continues to impact the lives of veterans and their families through his dedication to service.
