Chateau Cigar Club Gets Started
Dr. Jim Kay enjoys cigars, camaraderie, and chatting but knows little about the art of smoking a fine cigar. Jim said, “I like talking with people about cigars, but to tell you the truth, I have a lot to learn.” He started the Chateau Cigar Club to get people together in a laid-back setting so they could talk about cigars and life — a chance to get to know their neighbors on a deeper level. He continued, “I think guys and girls need time to disconnect from their routine, put themselves out there, and make connections with people.”
You might have seen Jim riding his boom bicycle around the neighborhood or relaxing in his backyard of “The Braselton,” watching the golfers on the 17th green of the Chateau course. He enjoys traveling and has been in the mastabas of Egypt and rode in a car with a Manchester United player. Jim has lived in England, around the United States, and now calls Chateau Elan home. Jim said, “After high school in Connecticut, my father took my house key away, so I backpacked through Europe, meeting and talking with some interesting characters. That time in my youth created a fondness for adventure.”
Over the years, Jim has been through his ups and downs. He has lived above a mechanic’s shop and slept in a van in an alley in Liverpool but later had eight books published and earned his doctorate. Jim said, “Your upbringing drives your personality, and everyone has had a different upbringing. I think people should get to know new and interesting people and their personalities. It’s both the hardships and the good times that shape people into who they are today.” When asked for anything else he’d like to say, he said, “I know the only thing constant in life is change — go with the flow, enjoy life as it comes, and find your happiness.” Maybe you’ll find your happiness chatting with like-minded people at the next Chateau Cigar Club meeting.
