Donny and Kristine Smith’s home on Crimson King Drive in the Woodlands section of Chateau Élan exudes the timeless charm of English elegance. Having lived in the neighborhood for 18 months, the Smiths have already made a stunning impression. Their home was one of the standout stops on the recent Chateau Élan Christmas Tour of Homes, with a yard that perfectly complements the architectural charm of their residence.

In preparation for the Tour of Homes, the Smiths collaborated with Lady Landscape to transform their yard into a space that reflected their vision. In keeping with the English castle style of their home, they incorporated parterres into the front yard and the poolside courtyard. These structured garden elements set the stage for a curated collection of vintage terra cotta pots and antique Anduze pots, each filled with various shaped topiaries. These distinctive containers, arranged thoughtfully throughout the front and back yard, add an artistic and sophisticated touch to the property.

One of the most unique features of the Smiths’ yard is the boxwood sofa at the front gate. Lady Landscape planted boxwoods to form the shape of a sofa, complete with a decorative bench seat. This idea was inspired by something Kristine had planted at her home in Alabama, and she wanted to incorporate it into this home to bring a sense of familiarity and comfort. Over time, as the boxwoods grow and mature, the Smiths plan to prune them into the full form of a sofa, with defined armrests and a tall back. This creative and whimsical project requires patience and meticulous care, but the result will be a stunning living centerpiece.

The courtyard pool is the highlight of the Smiths’ outdoor oasis. This private and tranquil space is perfect for the Smith’s to enjoy swimming, birding, and watching football. Surrounded by their new landscaping, the pool area blends beauty and functionality, offering a secluded retreat perfect for relaxation and entertaining.

While the home’s original landscape had a strong foundation, the Smiths have worked diligently to enhance and revive it. As the fourth homeowners, they have honored the property’s history while bringing new life to areas like the back lower yard. Their dedication to creating a landscape that reflects the elegance of their home has turned their outdoor spaces into a source of pride and inspiration for the neighborhood.
