Steven Porter Served Eight Years in the
U.S. Navy
Steven, Valerie, Jalen (14), and Steven Porter II (17) moved into Chateau Elan two years ago.
We were able to talk to Steven and learn about his eight years of service in the U.S. Navy as a personnelman second class petty officer. Steven was stationed at multiple bases during his time in the Navy, including:
Great Lakes, IL
USS Ticonderoga CG47 — Pascagoula, MS
VFA 25 — Lemoore, CA
Navy Supply Corps School, Athens, GA
VFA 86 — Marine Corp Air Station, Beaufort, SC
While serving, he earned the following honors:
Navy And Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon; Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon; Navy "E" Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Expert Pistol
Steven served in counter-drug operations in the Caribbean and was able to go to the following countries: Aruba, Columbia, Curacao, Haiti, Panama, and Puerto Rico. He also served in Operation Southern Watch in the Middle East and visited the countries of Dubai, Perth, and Tasmania, Australia, during this time. Steven shared, "All of my experiences were memorable. I learned a lot about different cultures, the local people, and great food from traveling to different countries. However, After every deployment, I learned to appreciate the freedom and liberties that we get to experience every day living in one of the best countries in the world."
