Jack Humble Shares his U.S. Army Experience

From Service to Silver Strings

Sometimes, life’s biggest turns aren’t chosen—they’re drafted. For Jack Humble, that turn came when he was called into the U.S. Army. What began as an obligation quickly became a formative experience, shaping the way he approached education, career, and even the way he lives in retirement today.

Jack served three years in the Army, including a tour in Southeast Asia during 1970–1971. He rose to the rank of Specialist 5th Class and, in 1972, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal while serving with the 46th Engineer Battalion at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. While he doesn’t come from a long line of military service, Jack believes his time in uniform left a lasting imprint on his life. “The disciplines and self-confidence learned during military service were instrumental in my post-service college education and a very successful career as a Chief Executive Officer in the chemicals and colorants industry,” he reflects.

Jack and his wife, Dee Dee, have lived in Executive Estates for 16 years, raising their four children—Charley, Wright, Janie, and John—while being active members of the community. Today, retirement hasn’t slowed Jack down. In fact, he’s more energized than ever, both on the court and on the stage. A passionate tennis player, he serves as the area Silverball Tennis League Coordinator, captains the Chateau Elan Sports Club Silverball tennis team, and competes on a mixed doubles team as well.

But perhaps Jack’s favorite role is that of a musician and host. Since retiring in 2023, he has transformed part of his home into The Ascot Club, a one-of-a-kind neighborhood venue where his band, Silver and Spice, performs for neighbors and friends. Complete with seating, a stage, and the energy of an intimate nightclub, The Ascot Club has already become a hub for community gatherings, appreciation events, and charity celebrations. The most recent event honored his daughter-in-law, Kay Chapman Humble, for her retirement from Buford City Schools—proof that Jack’s love of music and people extends far beyond the stage.

Military service marked the start of a journey that would shape every aspect of his life—leadership, family, and a deep connection to community. From Army Specialist to CEO to neighborhood musician, Jack’s story shows how the lessons of discipline, confidence, and teamwork can carry through every chapter.
Today, whether he’s smashing a serve on the tennis court or strumming a chord on stage, Jack lives by the same philosophy he embraced decades ago: life is richer when shared with others.
