Where Every Voice Finds Strength:Linelly Nieves Brings Compassion & Care to the Community
For Linelly Nieves, helping people find their voice—and regain skills they may have lost—is more than a profession. It is a calling rooted in family, education, compassion and a deep commitment to helping others live their lives to the fullest.
Born and raised in the Bronx to a Dominican family, Linelly grew up in a household where education and hard work were highly valued. Those lessons stayed with her as she pursued her own education, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Lehman College before obtaining her Master’s degree from LIU Brooklyn.
During her graduate-school clinical practicums, Linelly discovered a particular passion for the medical side of Speech Language pathology. She became especially interested in helping adults regain communication and swallowing skills following neurological events such as strokes.
After beginning her career in 2017, Linelly moved to Houston, Texas, to jumpstart her professional journey. Over the years, she gained experience working in acute-care hospitals, subacute rehabilitation and outpatient settings, developing a broad understanding of the challenges patients and their families face.
Then life brought a new chapter. After having her two sons in 2022, Linelly made the decision to stay home with her family. But she also knew she wanted to continue doing the work she loved.
That desire ultimately led to the creation of The Vocal Point in 2023.
Today, The Vocal Point allows Linelly to combine her professional passion with her role as a mother. Through her private practice, she helps patients diagnose and address speech, swallowing and voice disorders while supporting them throughout their rehabilitation journey.
"The Vocal Point has allowed me to help patients through their rehabilitation process and return to their lives,” Linelly explains. “It also allows me to have a work-life balance where I can still be present for my husband, my children and my family.”
The practice’s motto, “Where every voice finds strength,” reflects the heart of Linelly’s mission. She believes each patient has individual needs and goals, and effective therapy should focus on helping people regain practical, functional skills that allow them to participate more fully in everyday life.
The Vocal Point offers FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of the Swallow), a diagnostic examination used to identify swallowing and voice disorders. The practice also provides speech and dysphagia (swallowing) therapy for adults experiencing changes related to aging or neurological disorders. Pediatric speech therapy is available for children ages 0 to 5.
What sets The Vocal Point apart is its emphasis on personalized, functional therapy. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Linelly works closely with patients and their families to establish goals that matter in their everyday lives.
“We tailor our goals around what the patients and the family want and work together as a team to achieve the patient's highest potential,” she says.
That commitment to collaboration extends beyond her practice's walls. Linelly makes an effort to stay connected to the community through local networking and events, while also supporting local fundraisers whenever possible.
Building a business while raising a young family has not always been easy. Linelly describes entrepreneurship as an experience that can sometimes feel like “a lonely island.” But she has learned that building relationships with other business owners and continuing her education can make a tremendous difference.
“Making connections with other business owners and educating myself on certain topics has allowed me to make informed decisions that propel my business forward,” she says.
Those connections and experiences are helping The Vocal Point enter an exciting new chapter. The practice is expanding, with plans to welcome new team members and become even more involved in Brooklyn communities.
For Linelly, growth is not simply about building a business. It is about creating more opportunities to help people regain confidence, independence and connection.
One patient family has already experienced that impact firsthand.
“Linelly has been amazing,” says Sil V., whose husband, Bruno, worked with Linelly after suffering a stroke that left him nearly nonverbal. “She has been compassionate and committed. She truly cares about the needs of the patient. We will forever be grateful.”
Linelly also hopes her professional experience can encourage people to pay closer attention to their own health. Her advice is straightforward: if something does not seem right, do not ignore it.
“You know your body best—if something is concerning, seek the help and the proper guidance,” she says.
As a bilingual professional who speaks both English and Spanish, Linelly is ealso able to connect with a broader range of families and patients.
From her Bronx roots and Dominican heritage to her career in Speech Language Pathology and her role as a mother and business owner, Linelly’s journey has been shaped by a simple belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to communicate, connect and live as fully as possible.
Through The Vocal Point, she is turning that belief into action—one patient, one family and one voice at a time.
