Emma's Story
Love that follows you wherever you go.
Emma enjoying a beautiful view.
What is your pet's name?
Emma.
What is your pet's age?
11.
What type of breed is Emma?
Hound Mix (per a DNA test, she is allegedly 25% Treeing Walker Coonhound, 25% Bluetick Coonhound, 25% Border Collie, and 25% mystery).
When & where did you adopt your pet?
We adopted Emma at the SPCA of Westchester in 2015.
What made you decide to make your home your pets forever home?
Emma actually made that decision. She was the very first dog to run out of her kennel at the SPCA (and straight into our hearts). Emma's sweet personality won everyone over instantly!
How did your pet get his/her name?
Emma came with her name! We thought about changing it to Bowie (because of her 2 different colored eyes), but my mother-in-law thought she would be confused by the switch. Little did she know Emma only had her name for about 48 hours before she was adopted. Now we can't imagine calling her anything else - she's a perfect Emma!
Does your pet have any favorite toys, places to sleep, visit etc.?
Emma loves to visit Bar Great Harry on Smith Street, where she becomes an instant celebrity. She happily makes her rounds, soaking up attention from everyone she meets. She'll wander right over and make herself comfortable at a stranger's table within minutes. We always try to get her back to our table, but her newfound friends usually insist that she stay with them.
Tell us something quirky or funny that your pet does.
Emma loves to come boating with us. Her preferred spot is right up front with the sun on her face and the wind in her ears.
How has having your pet made your life better?
Emma has filled our home with unconditional love, laughter, and adventure. She's not just our dog—she's the heart of our family. From making friends everywhere she goes to greeting each day with enthusiasm, she reminds us to find joy in the little things. We truly can't imagine our lives without her.
Is there anything else you want to tell the neighbors about your pet?
Emma has taught us so much over the years. She's taught us to step away from work and enjoy a beautiful day because, no matter how urgent an email might seem, she still needs a walk (and, often, so do we). She's taught us that every outing is an opportunity to build community, because she never misses the chance to make a new friend (shout out to Chucky, who makes sure she gets her nightly treat!). And, as a talented escape artist, she's definitely taught us patience, flexibility, and how to laugh when things don't go according to plan. Emma has made our lives richer, funnier, and filled with so much love. She has been with us through a global pandemic, grad school, and welcoming our first baby. We can't imagine our family without her.
