Let Girls GLOW

How Cohasset’s Caroline Hines is redefining girls youth sports starting with character, confidence and love of the game.

For Caroline Hines, sports have always been so much more than competition—the core values she learned from being a young athlete are the remain the same today--confidence, resilience, coachability, humility, work ethic and the power of leadership. Growing up as a multi-sport athlete, Caroline experienced firsthand how playing across different fields, courts, and arenas shaped her adaptability, work ethic, and sense of self. Now, as the Founder of GLOW Lacrosse, she’s determined to give the next generation of girls those same opportunities — and more.

“I noticed this overwhelming pressure to perform at this age,” Caroline explains. “I watched young girls get cut from teams and lose their self-confidence, across all aspects of their lives. At GLOW, we want girls to try multiple sports, to explore, to discover what they love — because that’s what builds adaptability, coachability, and social awareness.”

Roots in Community, Fueled by Passion
Although Caroline grew up in Rye, New York, Cohasset has always been in her DNA. Her parents, both Cohasset natives, were high school sweethearts — one of six children each.

Caroline’s grandfather, Bob Walls, remains a legend in town as “The Voice of the Skippers,” with the high school football scoreboard now named in his honor. When Caroline moved to Cohasset in 2015, she found herself living next door to the very church where her parents were married and where she was baptized.
“I didn’t grow up here, but my roots here run deep,” she says with a smile. “I feel so lucky to be part of this community.”

After graduating from Deerfield Academy in 2003 as a 2x All-American and Harvard College in 2007 as a Division I 2-sport athelete, Caroline pursued a successful corporate career. But two years ago, she felt the pull toward something different.

"I left my corporate job to pursue my passion”--coaching, mentoring young girls, in particular, her daughters Maeve (7) and Keira (6)-- “And I haven't looked back.”

More Than a Game
GLOW is not a club program. In fact, their classes are built to complement club play, not compete with it. GLOW helps prepare young girls for club tryouts and allows existing club players the opportunity sharpen their skills, keep pace, and stay game ready. GLOW has created a positive, fast-paced, high-energy environment where girls can play on their own terms on a schedule that works for them!

“We provide customized, comprehensive instruction for beginners and elite athletes alike that teaches the fundamentals, sharpens skills, and elevates each player’s understanding of the game,” Caroline explains. “But just as important, we prioritize character and teamwork. We coach the whole person, not just the athlete.”

What sets GLOW apart, she says, is the emphasis on connection. Coaches take time to learn each player’s personality, motivations, and learning style. “It’s about helping them build confidence, independence, and character — skills they’ll carry long after their playing days are over.”

Creating Space for Every Girl
The culture of youth sports, Caroline admits, has grown more competitive — and often more cutthroat — over the years. “We see girls getting cut from teams as early as second or third grade,” she says. “That pressure can crush a love of the game before it even has a chance to bloom.”

At GLOW, the philosophy is different. Players train in a fast-paced but judgment-free environment, free from the politics of town rivalries and team cuts. The program is “town agnostic,” welcoming girls from across the South Shore and beyond.

“This has been a challenge,” Caroline acknowledges. “Some towns are competitive about keeping things within their own teams. But the families who join us see the value of their daughters are playing with girls from all different towns and walks of life. As such, they are learning to focus on their own game, versus comparing themselves to their close friends and teammates."

Growth and Momentum
Since launching, GLOW has expanded from serving just two towns to more than eight, thanks to word-of-mouth from parents and players alike. The program now offers age-specific groups, one-class passes for busy families, and an expanded female coaching staff that Caroline says is making a tremendous impact.

“We recognize the lack of female coaches on the fields,” she says. “Our growing staff of women not only teach skills, but also model leadership and resilience for the girls.”These connections lead to higher levels of engagement, enthusiasm and a continued interest in the game as they get older.

This year, GLOW has broadened its curriculum to reach players of different skill levels and long-term goals, from beginners to those preparing for competitive club tryouts. “No matter where a girl is in her journey, we want her to feel happy, confident, and unconditionally supported.”

More Than Lacrosse
Caroline is quick to emphasize that GLOW is not just about lacrosse. “We’re teaching life skills,” she says. “Gratitude, resilience, positivity, teamwork. We believe that if you develop great people, great players will follow.”

Her advice for parents echoes that philosophy. “Encourage your daughters to explore — whether it’s lacrosse, art, math, or music. Don’t narrow them down too soon. Early experiences with exploration build confidence, creativity, and self-identity.”

For Caroline, the joy of sport is something she never lost sight of. She still remembers picking up a lacrosse stick for the first time in fourth grade.

"I didn't feel pressure to be the best,” she says. “My success was fueled by my coaches, mentors, and most significantly, my family, who always believed in me."

"In particular, I owe so much of my story to my Dad. He loved watching me play. He just showed up.  I didn't even have to find him on the sidelines. I just knew he somewhere in the crowd. In high school, he would drive 3 hours on a Wednesday just to watch me play. And I will never forget that".

Today, through GLOW, Caroline is giving that gift of joy back to the next generation — one player at a time.

"My vision for GLOW has always been dedicated to my daughters,” Caroline says.  “I want all my players to feel the same spark I did.”
