Colleton River Women’s Golf Association: A Driving Force in the Game and the Community

Winning Colleton Cup team

The Colleton River Women’s Golf Association (CRWGA), with over 240 active members, is one
of the most vibrant and dynamic women’s golf organizations in the Lowcountry. Founded in
2001, the association has steadily grown in both size and stature. In 2026, CRWGA will proudly
celebrate its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of friendship, fun, and friendly
competition. Coleen Rodney-Brown, President, shared, “CRWGA is more than just a golf
league, this group exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie, competition, and shared enjoyment that
makes Colleton River such a special place to live and play.”

One of the most distinctive aspects of the league is its structure. It operates with its own
governing body, a volunteer board of dedicated members who bring professionalism and passion to their roles. The board manages a dedicated budget, plans the season’s schedule, and appoints event chairs to lead each of the 10 major events. This high level of organization has earned the league a reputation as a gold standard for how a golf league should be run.

Every Thursday, the league offers members the chance to play and compete in an 18-hole or 9-
hole friendly, welcoming environment. These weekly playdays are a staple of the league’s
calendar, typically drawing over 40 participants. Whether it's a casual round or a fun format,
Thursday play fosters both skill development and strong social bonds among members.

In addition, the league hosts 10 major events throughout the season, each known for its creative
themes and competitive spirit. This year, those events collectively welcomed over 600
participants, with several of them selling out well in advance. Two of the signature events invite
members to bring guests; an opportunity to showcase the beauty of Colleton River, the
excellence of its golf facilities, and the warmth and enthusiasm of the league itself.

Carol Hammond, Past President, shared, “It was incredible to watch our members continue to
celebrate change, encouraging healthy competition, and develop deep companionship. Watching our members embrace our values has been both rewarding and inspiring.”

What truly sets the Colleton River Women’s Golf Association (CRWGA) apart is its sense of
community and excellence. Golf brings them together, but it’s friendships, leadership, and shared purpose that make this league exceptional. With strong organization, joyful competition, and a spirit of connection, the league continues to grow its impact on the game and in the lives of the women who are part of it.
