Colleton River Supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at Play for P.I.N.K. 2026
The Colleton River Community continued its tradition of generosity and commitment to breast cancer research at this year’s Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate Diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) week of events. Together, we raised over $124,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Whether you love golf, racquet sports, group games like Canasta, poker, mahjong, and bingo, or want to put on your walking shoes to Walk the Links, Play for P.I.N.K. week included activities for everyone.
Highlights of our 21st anniversary celebration included:
Golf – This year’s event kicked off with a Golf Tournament on the Nicklaus course. Nearly 100 golfers participated and didn’t seem to mind a bit of rain. The winning foursome included Gwen Lyall, Maggie Leef, Marsha Murphy, and Barbara Slankard. The Men’s Closest to the Pin winner was Michael Brunner, and the Ladies Closest to the Pin winner was Donna Andersen.
Social Hour followed the Golf Tournament, with the final bidding of the Silent Auction. Members bid on over 50 auction items, including member donations of artwork, photography, pottery, culinary events, golf, sporting event tickets, fine wines, a vacation stay in Chicago, a custom golf cart blanket, flowers, and golf lessons from our very own Golf Pros.
Tennis and Pickleball featured plenty of food and fun with themed raffles and silent auctions.
Walk the Links - The Dye golf course was a sea of pink! Walkers braved the cold weather to enjoy hot coffee, pink cookies, and camaraderie.
Poker continued to be a fan favorite. Stuart Frankenthal, a second-time winner, took the pot this year.
Canasta, Mahjong, and American Canasta brought ladies together for an enjoyable afternoon of cards, tiles, and camaraderie.
Pink Flamingo Bingo had a record 80 participants and 60+ prizes. Hosts Mark Stephens and Jeff Tracy brought the fun, adding group and individual trivia challenges.
A special thanks to the Whit Group for organizing a golf tournament and lunch to benefit Play for P.I.N.K.
Play for P.I.N.K. week would not be possible without the dedication and contributions of committee leads, pink angel volunteers, and the Colleton River Management and Staff.

Things To Know….
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. And in the U.S., every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. The only way to eradicate this disease is through research. Our commitment is to donate 100% of the proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Foundation supports over 260 scientists working diligently to fight the disease, and they are making progress. Since 1989, breast cancer deaths have decreased by 44%. More treatments have been developed in the last decade than in the previous three decades combined. Since 2016, 17 new treatments have been approved by the FDA. Funding breast cancer research boosts chances for treating other cancers as well. One example is the discovery of Herceptin for the treatment of HER2+ breast cancer. Herceptin is now also being used to treat HER2+ esophageal and metastatic gastric cancers. That is the power of research!
We remain deeply grateful to the entire Colleton River Family of Members, Management, and staff who came together in support of this important cause. Thank you for your commitment and for entrusting us with your philanthropy.
