Name: Lindsay Sung
College: Cal Poly Pomona
Major: Mechanical Engineering

We are excited to spotlight Lindsay Sung this month. Lindsay is a senior at Cal Poly Pomona who has called Ladera Ranch home for 22 years. She has been a dedicated student and college athlete for the past four years and is making strides in the field of Mechanical Engineering. With aspirations to work in the biomedical engineering sector, Lindsay aims to create innovative solutions in medical devices that can ultimately save lives.

Lindsay’s passion for engineering was inspired by her father, Kyle, whose logical thinking and approach to problem-solving left a lasting impression. "Growing up, I always had a love for math and science, which led me to follow in my dad’s footsteps," she shares. This foundation in STEM has guided her through her college journey, where she actively engages in projects that align with her career goals.

One of her notable projects involved researching solutions for hip dysplasia in medium to large dog breeds, allowing her to gain valuable medical knowledge applicable to her future work. Lindsay's hands-on experience is further solidified by her internships; she spent one summer at Oakley and two summers at Medtronic. During her time at Medtronic, she contributed significantly to the company, saving them $25,000 a year through her work in Regulatory Affairs and Quality Engineering.

Despite her accomplishments, Lindsay has faced challenges, particularly in balancing her rigorous academic schedule with being a collegiate soccer player. "Time management has been my biggest hurdle," she admits. “Over the last four years playing collegiate soccer while studying Mechanical Engineering has been hard to balance while also keeping a social aspect of my college life, but I’ve learned the importance of sacrifice and how it contributes to my personal growth.

Lindsay draws inspiration from her family, particularly her mother, Sharon, who instilled a strong work ethic in her. "My parents have always pushed me to be a great student and person, setting an example of what it means to make a difference," she says. This commitment not only drives her own ambitions but also motivates her to be a role model for her younger sister, Raegan, and her older sister, Caitlyn.

Looking ahead, Lindsay is determined to make a positive impact in the world through her career in biomedical engineering. "I know that my work can save lives, which makes my passion feel more meaningful and fulfilling," she reflects.

For those aspiring to follow in her footsteps, Lindsay offers wise advice: "Never dream too small. There's so much that can be accomplished through hard work. Engineering may seem daunting, but as a woman in this field, it has been incredibly rewarding."

With her strong foundation, ambitious goals, and unwavering determination, Lindsay Sung is poised to make a significant impact in her field and inspire others along the way.
On behalf of Stroll Covenant Hills, congratulations Lindsay on all your accomplishments thus far. Your future is bright!
