Game On: Why Mahjong Is the Hottest Table in Town

Mahjong Mania Comes to Ladera Ranch

If you’ve been hearing the click of tiles and bursts of laughter around Covenant Hills lately, you’re not imagining things—Mahjong is having a moment in Ladera Ranch.
This classic game, which originated in China, has been bringing people together for generations. Often compared to a mix of rummy and strategy games, Mahjong is played with beautifully designed tiles and involves skill, memory, and just the right amount of luck. While it may seem a bit intimidating at first, once you learn the basics, it quickly becomes a favorite pastime, and maybe even a weekly obsession.
Here in Ladera Ranch, a growing group of  women has embraced Mahjong not just as a game, but as a way to connect. The Ladera Ranch Ladies Mahjong Club meets every Monday at 12:30 PM at the Covenant Hills pool, creating a relaxed and welcoming space for both beginners and experienced players.
What makes this group so special is how inclusive it is. New players are always encouraged to join (of course after you have had a few lessons), but there’s plenty of gals at different levels. Whether you are just coming out of lessons  or you’ve played for years, there’s a seat at the table for you.
Beyond the game itself, it’s really about the community. Friendships are forming, neighbors are getting to know one another, and Mondays have turned into something everyone looks forward to. It’s a chance to step away from busy schedules, enjoy some fresh air, and share a few laughs over a friendly (and sometimes competitive!) game.
If you’re curious about learning Mahjong or want to join in on the fun, the group makes it easy to get started. You can find more information, including lessons and game times, on their Facebook page: Ladera Ranch Ladies Mahjong Club.
So whether you’re looking to learn something new, meet other women in the community, or simply enjoy a fun and social afternoon, Mahjong might just be your next favorite thing.
Grab a seat, pick up a tile, and join the fun—your Monday afternoons just got a whole lot more interesting.
