Honoring Leo: The Reisch Family Highlights Jewish Family Service’s Work in Our Community
This month, the Crestmoor community is proud to shine a spotlight on Jewish Family Service (JFS)—a nonprofit chosen by neighbors Trina (Owner of Purple Petal Flowers) and Scott Reisch in honor of their beloved dog, Leo, who recently passed away.
Leo was more than a pet; he was a cherished member of the Reisch family with a famously warm spirit, a gentle presence, and—according to those who knew him best—a proudly Jewish identity. His joyful visits, affectionate greetings, and boundless curiosity were constants in the neighborhood. But what many may not know is that the Reisch family credits Leo with inspiring them to support Jewish Family Service, an organization that mirrors his compassion and care for others.
Why JFS? A Legacy of Care—Just Like Leo
Jewish Family Service has served Colorado for more than 145 years, offering vital support to individuals and families of all backgrounds. Their programs range from food assistance and aging-in-place services to mental health counseling, refugee resettlement, disability support, employment help, and emergency aid. JFS’s mission is simple: to strengthen the community by empowering people in need.
Trina shares that JFS has always represented the kind of kindness and inclusion that Leo—gentle soul that he was—seemed to naturally embody. “Leo loved everyone,” she says. “He reminded us daily that small acts of love make a difference. Supporting JFS felt like a natural way to honor his memory.”
A Community Invitation
The Reisch family hopes that highlighting JFS will inspire neighbors to learn more about the organization’s work and the many ways to get involved—whether through volunteering, donating, attending community programs, or simply spreading the word.
In celebrating Leo’s life, the Crestmoor community also celebrates the lasting impact one family—and one very special dog—can have on others.
May Leo’s memory be a blessing, and may his legacy continue through the compassion and community spirit that JFS brings to so many.
