All States Home Improvement: From $500 and a Typewriter to a Wichita Legacy
Every great business has a beginning—and for All States Home Improvement, it started with just $500, a borrowed typewriter, and an idea.
In 1992, west Wichita native Cris Keeter returned home after serving four years in the U.S. Marines with a vision to build a family-owned home remodeling company rooted in integrity and trust. Cris and his wife, Kim, both grew up in west Wichita and graduated from Maize High School, and they have spent most of their lives calling this community home. With limited resources but a strong work ethic, Cris borrowed $500 and a typewriter from a friend to write his first remodeling contract. More than 30 years later, that small beginning has grown into one of Wichita’s most respected home improvement companies, now employing over 60 team members. “We didn’t have much when we started—just a vision and a willingness to work,” Cris says. “From day one, our goal was to take care of people and stand behind our work.”
Cris and Kim built the company on a simple philosophy: customer first, employees second, and profit last. Kim plays a key role in the business, managing accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll while helping grow the company and raise their family.
“If you take care of customers and employees, profit takes care of itself,” Cris explains.
In the early years, All States took on nearly any project available. Over time, the company refined its expertise and became a leader in exterior home improvement, specializing in windows, siding, roofing, decks, gutter protection, and bathroom remodeling.
What truly sets All States apart is its team-based approach. Dedicated Field Managers oversee each project, communicate with homeowners, and ensure quality from start to finish. “It takes a team of professionals to create a great experience,” Cris says. “Clear communication makes all the difference.”
Family is deeply woven into the company’s identity. Cris and Kim have six children and four grandchildren, with two more on the way. Their children include Derrick (married to Michaela, with children Austin, Ireland, and Weston), Chase (married to Kaleigh), Paige (engaged to Erek, with daughter Nelly), Tank (married to Ashton), and twins Lakin and Taryn. All live in Wichita except Paige, who resides in Colorado. Several family members also work in the business. Three of their children work for the company along with two of their spouses. Outside of work, family time is a priority. The Keeters enjoy hunting and fishing together, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, attending games when they can, and spending time at their second home in Shell Knob, Missouri, where boating on Table Rock Lake is a favorite pastime.
In 2023, All States expanded into a 20,000-square-foot facility off West Kellogg, featuring a showroom, warehouse, live call center, and learning center for employee training and homeowner education. With more than 900 Google reviews and a 4.8-star rating, plus honors including the BBB Integrity Award, Wichita Business Journal Best Place to Work, and Remodeling Magazine’s Big 50 Award, All States Home Improvement continues to build trust across Wichita. Located at 9436 W. Kellogg, the company lives by its promise:
