The Creative Journey Behind Striped Lemon Design

Meet Owner and Lead Designer, Andrea Dussault

Since 2012, I’ve been immersed in the world of interior design—a passion that blossomed after I left a successful corporate career to care for my young family. With an inherent love for architecture and design, I pursued certification and initially launched my own firm in Connecticut. However, it was here in Charleston, where my family and I have now lived for almost 10 years, that Striped Lemon Design truly came to life. The thriving environment of new construction and renovation projects in the Lowcountry has allowed my firm to grow and evolve in exciting ways, and I eagerly anticipate what the future holds.

What truly sets Striped Lemon Design apart is the personal touch I bring to every project. While many aspects of design can be taught in the classroom, creativity has always been a natural part of who I am. My passion drives every decision, and I make it a point to personally oversee all the designs and projects we undertake. I find that my best ideas often emerge during the on-site installation process. Being present on every final installation day ensures that I can maintain a direct connection with our clients, ensuring that every detail reflects their vision. This commitment to personal attention is a cornerstone of my business philosophy, which is why I intentionally keep my company small.

Living on Daniel Island has also had a profound influence on my design aesthetic. The island is a beautiful mosaic of diverse home architectures and styles, and even after 10 years, I continue to discover new inspirations simply by driving around the neighborhood. One of our favorite family activities is exploring the area—observing how residents use outdoor spaces, the colors they choose, and the materials that define their homes. This continuous discovery fuels my desire to create designs that allow clients to truly live their best lives here. In the Lowcountry, where indoor-outdoor living is a way of life, I strive to craft interiors that naturally extend into the outdoors, blending functionality with the beauty of our environment.

I particularly enjoy projects that allow for a cohesive design throughout a client’s home. Being involved from the early stages of a new build or renovation lets me contribute to material selections and design choices that ultimately shape the entire space. I relish the opportunity to collaborate with homeowners, contractors, and vendors, turning shared ideas into reality.
Spending quality time with clients and their families helps me understand their personalities, lifestyles, and needs, ensuring that every project is as unique as the individuals it serves.

Staying ahead of trends while creating timeless designs is an ongoing pursuit. Charleston’s vibrant design community, from the new design district in North Charleston Navy Yard to local trade showrooms and design events, provides endless inspiration. I also make regular trips to the High Point Market and international events like Paris Deco Off in France to immerse myself in the latest trends. These experiences not only spark new ideas but also reinforce my commitment to designs that are modern yet enduring. Ultimately, my goal is to help families live better and more beautifully—one thoughtfully designed space at a time.
