507 W Davis Blvd.

The Davis Islands Garden Club is honored to have the Corcoran family as our “Yard of the Month."

So, this home at 507 West Davis Boulevard is on my regular loop when (on rare occasions) I get the urge to walk the dog. Don’t worry, the others are making up for my slack. But I am usually doing it strategically, using it as an excuse to run into these folks when the bougainvillea is blooming over their garage. Because when it happens, it is truly magical!

But this ritual went on for a STUPID amount of time. I started to think they either didn’t exist or just never left the house. They even have this grand fire pit in the front yard. Folks, you need to use this.... or you might come home to me chilling out here. Just kidding, or am I? Haha!

Then one day it happened, I decided to walk my 100lb hound from hell, and there was a color explosion no one could deny. I was no longer going to let this just lie in the hands of fate. The yard had suddenly received an even prettier glow-up. Hard to imagine, it was already pretty! So I marched up those stairs. I knocked, and I talked to the ring cam. It's always awkward. I’m awkward. Clearly. I spend toooo much time with plants.

After random posts on my fave DI moms page, I FINALLY connected with Joe. He was like, "FINALLY someone noticed our yard”! I’m dead, as the kids would say. Also, I was completely not surprised to hear it was my fave former groom who got married at our DI Garden Club who was responsible. Freidel Scholl of SoHo Landscape. They do amazing work!

So aside from this amazing story, I learned something super cool at our last DIGC meeting from our local FL Native plant expert Debbie Zahrt. Royal Palms, which are these majestic giants featured in the Corcorans’ lawn, are a Florida native and are crazy resistant to high winds. So if you need a statement piece or 10, these guys can withstand those hurricanes! So check out a meeting. There is always good food, great people, and you might learn something along the way.
