Q&A with Karra Krug

Karra Krug is a Dorset resident and the owner of Built for Life. She specializes in movement training that reprograms the body to thrive in everyday life.

Tell a little about yourself and your athletic journey.
Movement has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in an active family, I developed a love for being outdoors and exploring movement in many ways. Whether I’m running, hiking, paddleboarding on a quiet lake, riding my bike, or simply spending time in nature, I feel most like myself when I’m moving.

How has improving the way you move made a difference in your life?
Learning that I was living with a connective tissue disorder changed the way I understood movement. It finally gave me an explanation for why my body often felt unstable and unpredictable. Instead of simply accepting that feeling, I began learning how my body moved, how it changed from day to day, and what it was trying to tell me. That process is ongoing, but it taught me that paying attention to movement can completely change the way we experience our bodies—and it shapes every client I work with today.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned in your movement journey?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that progress isn’t always obvious, and it isn’t always physical. Sometimes the biggest steps forward happen internally—learning to trust yourself, slowing down enough to notice what your body is telling you, and letting go of the temptation to compare your journey to someone else’s. Those lessons have shaped not only how I move, but how I live.

What does “being built for life” mean to you?
To me, being “built for life” means building a body you trust to support the life you want to live. It’s creating a relationship with your body that allows you to move through life with greater freedom, resilience, and trust for years to come.
What’s one habit that’s had the biggest impact on your wellbeing?

Whenever I can, I seek out nature—especially places with moving water. Whether I’m running, hiking, paddleboarding, or simply taking my shoes off and standing in the grass, those moments help quiet the noise, reconnect me with my body, and leave me feeling grounded. It doesn’t happen as often as I’d like, but it’s where I feel most restored.

What advice would you give someone who’s just starting their fitness or exercise journey?
Meet yourself where you are. Your body has been doing the best it knows how with the information it’s had. There’s no perfect place to begin—only the place you’re standing today. Start there, stay curious, give yourself grace, and allow your body to teach you what it needs.

Outside of your practice as a movement reprograming specialist, what do you enjoy doing?
I love spending time with my fiancé, my two daughters, our dogs, and being outdoors whenever I can.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about helping people learn to listen to their bodies. Watching someone experience that “aha” moment—when they suddenly feel their body working in a way they never realized was possible—is incredibly rewarding. Those moments don’t just change how someone moves; they often change how they trust themselves. That’s why I started Built for Life.
