When and how did your dogs come to join your family?

Anouk came from a wonderful breeder in Vermont. She was my first puppy in 25 years. Toby was adopted through Pug Rescue of New England. He was flown over from Korea!  At the time, I also had a senior, Chewie  (RIP to the best boy). Anouk was a lot of activity for my old man, so I mentioned to a friend who works for PRONE that we needed a younger friend for her. A few weeks later, Toby came home with us! He's been part of our family for 3 years now. 

Are there stories behind your dogs’' names? How did you come up with them?

Anouk is a French name that I have always liked since first hearing it in the movie Chocolat. The rescue gave Toby his name. However, we enjoy calling him The Powdered Sugar Donut since he's filled out in stature and is white!

What's the one trait or behavior that makes your dogs stand out from the rest?

Pugs are wonderful: funny, active, relaxed, hyper, smart and LOVE to be loved. If they're barking at you, it's because they want you to pet them!

Do your dogs have any unique talents or tricks?

Anouk can do an array of tricks and walks on her hind legs when it's feeding time. Toby... we're just glad he finally understands English! However, he has better recall than Anouk sometimes.

Do your dogs have any favorite toys or treats?

The love our friend's brand, Dr. Freeze (freeze dried hearts, livers etc) and anything Honest Kitchen.  Anouk enjoys Mr. Bill; she loves to snuggle with him in the evenings.  And she sleeps with Penguin, which was Chewie's favorite toy. We don't know Toby's full background, but he took a while to settle in and is only recently starting to play with toys. He loves to play with his sister, though!

Tell us about your favorite memory with your dogs. 

Every day is full of memories, but some of my favorites are when Anouk first came home and could fit in one hand!  She was precious and a little hooligan.  How very cute Toby and Anouk are snuggled into bed together at nighttime. Toby almost won the fastest pug at a pug social, except he veered off at the last second to find me instead. 

Where do your dogs love to hang out in the neighborhood? 

Anouk and Toby can always be found at the Dorset Library sleeping in the office, or running around causing a ruckus (it's fitting that Anouk's Dad is named Ruckus). They are in the office most days and attend a lot of the events. Both pugs enjoy being a part of the festivities... especially Halloween and anything involving kids! Sometimes we do local walks with their terrier friend Ranger around the Green.
