Where Every Child Belongs: The Heart Behind TeachMe,LB

In a community like Naperville—where connection and care run deep—one local mom is making a quiet but powerful impact, one child at a time… and far beyond.

For Liza, TeachMe,LB didn’t begin as a formal mission. It began with a simple “yes.”

When the world paused in 2020 and families suddenly found themselves without the routines and support they relied on, many turned to Liza. A certified teacher with a natural gift for nurturing young minds, she opened her home, creating small-group experiences where children could continue to learn, play, and feel connected during an uncertain time.

What started in her lower level soon grew into something much more meaningful.
Today, TeachMe,LB is a nonprofit rooted in a powerful purpose: to serve families by fostering inclusion, belonging, and community through movement, play, and life skills for learners of all ages and abilities.

Step inside the center, and that purpose comes to life. The space feels less like a classroom and more like a home—warm, welcoming, and filled with possibility. While much of the programming is centered around children, the impact reaches even further. Nearly half of weekly classes serve young adults ages 18–22 through local school district transition programs, creating a space where they can continue building independence, confidence, and connection.

For Liza, the mission became even more personal with the birth of her son, Micah, who has Down syndrome. That experience deepened her commitment to creating a space where individuals of all abilities are not only included, but truly seen and celebrated.

And that vision is already taking shape.

Children who may have struggled to find their place elsewhere are discovering confidence and joy. Young adults are gaining life skills and meaningful social experiences. Families are finding support—and community. Each day, TeachMe,LB brings people together in a way that feels both simple and extraordinary.

Looking ahead, Liza hopes to grow that sense of belonging even further. She envisions a place where neighbors share their talents, teens step in as mentors, and learners of all ages continue to teach and inspire one another.

Because sometimes, the most powerful change doesn’t start with a grand plan.

It starts with opening your door—and creating a place where everyone belongs.
