David Barrett Shares Lefleur's East Foundation

For more than five years, resident David Barrett has worked behind the scenes with the Lefleur East Foundation, serving on its board and helping guide projects across the area known as the Lefleur East Super Neighborhood. The organization focuses on practical progress, tackling issues step by step and building on groundwork laid by earlier leaders.
“I like to be part of a group that is part of the solution,” David said. “It’s just more fun to try to be part of the solution.” That mindset drew him to the foundation and keeps him engaged. He points to the many groups across Jackson doing steady work and said he values being part of that broader effort.
Lefleur East operates with a focus on action. Some projects require significant coordination and time. Others are smaller and move quickly. Both matter. Board members work to identify needs, connect stakeholders, and move ideas toward completion. The goal is consistent progress that residents and business owners can see.
David is quick to credit those who served before him, with many past board members helping to shape the direction and structure of the organization. “We as a board want to thank each of them,” he said, adding that the best way to do that is by continuing to create “real, positive and substantial impact in our area.”
Partnerships with local businesses are central to that effort. The foundation works with companies throughout the Lefleur East footprint, aiming to support their growth and remove barriers. “Our goal is to do everything we can to make it easier for them to do business in LE,” he explained.
For residents who want to help but feel unsure where to begin, David's advice is simple: reach out. “People like to help people.”
