THE DYKES FAMILY
For the past 10 years, this energetic family has proudly called Forest Ridge home, settling into the original neighborhood near one of the peaceful ponds they enjoy so much.
Shannyn and Josh are the proud parents of two boys. Gavin is 17 and graduating this year, a milestone that brings both excitement and a little disbelief about how quickly time has passed. Connor is 15 and recently earned his driving permit, adding a whole new level of activity to an already full household. Life in their home is busy, loud, and full of personality, especially with three dogs in the mix. Frankie the Boxer, Bubba the English Bulldog, and Maggie the Frenchie make sure there is never a dull moment.
Originally from Springfield, Missouri, Shannyn moved to Tulsa at the age of four and considers Oklahoma home. Josh is from Scottsdale, Arizona. The couple spent nearly 15 years in the Phoenix area before moving back to Broken Arrow a decade ago. Returning to Oklahoma brought them closer to family and helped them establish deep roots in the community.
Shannyn earned her Marketing degree from Oklahoma State University Tulsa while working full time. Even so, she proudly cheers for the Oklahoma Sooners. She laughs about the irony and admits that her loyalty might be reconsidered if her oldest son decides to attend OSU one day.
After spending 25 years in corporate finance, Shannyn decided it was time to pursue what she truly loves. Today, she owns Creative SHANanigans, her arts and crafts business where creativity takes center stage every day. She creates commissioned artwork, hosts paint parties, runs an online art membership, and is beginning to offer art classes for kids.
Her favorite mediums include acrylic on canvas, mixed media, and junk journaling. Her style is bold, loose, and whimsical. What started as a passion has grown into a thriving business that allows her to encourage creativity in others while doing meaningful work she enjoys.
Josh brings nearly 40 years of experience in car audio, video, and accessories. His long career in the industry has made him a trusted expert, and his steady support has been instrumental as their family navigates busy seasons of work and parenting.
Relaxation can be hard to come by with busy careers and two high schoolers, but when they do slow down, you might find them enjoying a movie night, taking a nap in the hammock on the deck, or gathering around the backyard fire pit. The fire pit and hammock are favorite spots for conversation and quiet evenings alike. The family enjoys staying active and having fun together. Pickleball has become a favorite pastime, and friendly competition is always welcome. They also love exploring estate sales, hunting for unique finds and unexpected treasures. Family television nights have included rewatching Ozark and being completely invested in Stranger Things. Sharing shows together has become one of the simple ways they unwind.
When it comes to vacations, they are beach people through and through. Hawaii holds a special place in their hearts, and they frequently visit Navarre Beach in Florida. Their next adventure is planned for Tulum, Mexico. Sun, sand, and ocean air are their ideal way to recharge.
Their current favorite restaurant is Wildflower Cafe in Tulsa’s Meadow Gold District. They love the welcoming atmosphere and enjoy browsing the nearby local shops before or after a meal. At home, however, life often revolves around tacos, chips, and queso. It is the one meal everyone can agree on.
One of their most cherished traditions takes place each Christmas Eve. After attending church service, they head to Main Street in Broken Arrow with hot chocolates in hand to walk and enjoy the festive lights. Traditions are important in their home, and every season brings favorite foods, familiar activities, and time spent with extended family. Shannyn credits her parents and grandparents for establishing those meaningful rhythms and is committed to carrying them forward.
When asked what they love most about Forest Ridge, the answer comes easily. They treasure being close to one of the ponds and appreciate being able to walk the trails and experience beauty right outside their door. Summers at the neighborhood pool are a highlight, and the sense of community makes everyday life feel connected and welcoming.
For this family, Forest Ridge is more than a place to live. It is where memories are made, traditions continue, and creativity flourishes.
