PAW-sitively PENNY
Forest Ridge has a new golden girl exploring the neighborhood. Penny McQuary, a one year old Golden Retriever, keeps Christian and Thomas McQuary smiling with her playful personality and curious spirit.
The McQuarys have had Penny for about a year. She came from a wonderful Texas breeder called Ebenezer Goldens. Penny has also stepped into an important role in the family. She is the little sister to their beloved Lucy, who recently passed away. Lucy loved her walks around the pond in Forest Ridge, and now Penny is busy sniffing out all of Lucy’s favorite spots around the neighborhood.
Penny’s name has a fun story behind it. She is named after the character Shirley Temple played in Christian’s favorite old movie, Just Around the Corner. One of Christian’s favorite scenes is the dog grooming scene in the apartment building, which made the name feel like the perfect fit.
Life with Penny is never boring. She should probably have her own cooking show because she loves hopping up to the counter to see what is being made in the kitchen. When it is time to rest, she sleeps upside down and in the most unusual positions imaginable.
One of the things the McQuarys love most about Penny is her very long ears and her goofy smile. Her personality shines through in everything she does, especially when she is getting into a little mischief. Penny is still learning her manners and has a habit of stealing things around the house. Spoons, cell phones, shoes, computer mice, and even wine glasses have all mysteriously disappeared, only to be found with Penny. If something goes missing, there is a good chance she has it.
She also has a bit of a bossy streak. At one point, Penny decided she would take charge and tried to take Lucy on a walk by pulling her leash herself.
Like any well loved family pet, Penny enjoys plenty of spoiling. The McQuary dogs always get birthday celebrations, treats in their Christmas stockings, pup cups, and plenty of peanut butter goodies.
Penny came into the McQuarys’ lives at just the right time and helped fill the space left after losing Lucy. They cannot imagine life without a furry Golden Retriever at their feet and a friendly face waiting to greet them at the door. Penny has quickly become an important part of the family and a joyful presence in their Forest Ridge home.
