Love at First Lease

Steve and Jane Ingram only dated for eight months before they married. Now, they’ve been together for a blissful 33 years!

Those skeptical of love at first sight just have to listen to Steve and Jane Ingram’s story to know the phenomenon really does exist. After obtaining a teaching degree at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, Jane landed her first teaching job here in Tulsa and made the move to Broken Arrow. “My first teaching job didn’t pay the bills, so I also worked in the leasing office of the apartment complex where Steve and I both lived,” says Jane. “Steve came in to pay his rent, and the rest is history.”

Eight months later, Steve and Jane were married; they’ve now been together for 33 years and have three grown children. Their oldest daughter Morgan and her husband, Levi, have two children of their own, Cora age 7 and Archie age 4, who was just recently adopted. The family lives in Joplin, Missouri, where Levi runs his own insurance business and where the couple just opened BigFoot Boat Rentals on Lake of the Ozarks. Their poodle, Romeo, stays with Steve and Jane frequently. “All the neighbors know him because he escapes often!” says Jane. “He loves to play with all the kids on our block.”

Steve and Jane’s second daughter, Madison, is back in BA after serving as the music worship director/drummer at Angelus Temple, Church of the Dream Center in Los Angeles for the past four years. She currently works for Tulsa Bone & Joint.

The Ingram's’ youngest child, Adam, spends much of his time traveling across the country, house- and pet-sitting in towns near and far. He is currently pursuing property management in Colorado.

The Ingram's’ most recent trip took them to Israel before the COVID-19 pandemic; they have plans to go on an Alaskan cruise next. Steve and Jane also frequently visit family in Washington and California. “We try to escape there when the heat is unbearable here in Oklahoma,” says Jane. “We have gorgeous sunsets here, but they have the mountains and the beach!”

Having lived in Broken Arrow for the entirety of their relationship, Steve and Jane moved to Stanford’s Landing in Forest Ridge six years ago, after Steve retired from ONG and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. A few years later, Jane decided to retire from teaching and obtain her real estate license. “I love the change and the job flexibility,” she says. “I love meeting friends and clients for coffee anywhere in the surrounding Tulsa areas. Mostly, I appreciate them trusting me to assist them through their home buying, building or selling needs AND referring me!”

Since moving to Stanford’s Landing, the couple has fallen in love with the neighborhood's friendly neighbors, walking trails, and golfing. They especially enjoy working out at a nearby gym, supporting all the amazing local businesses and staying involved with Community Baptist Church in Coweta. The couple also enjoys staying in touch with a large sibling group they used to help foster. They host a yearly hang out at their house just so the kids can all get together. The Ingrams would also love for you to join them each spring for the Walk for Parkinson’s, downtown Tulsa!
