In the Allert household there's a new sheriff in town—and his name is Goose. This Maine Coon kitten is already 15 pounds and counting, with paws suggesting he's destined for impressive proportions.

"He's still a kitten, though it's easy to forget because he's already so big!" laughs Kira Allert. "He's brought a lot of energy and personality into our home."

The story behind Goose's name is charming. "We initially planned to get two cats and name them Goose and Maverick after Top Gun," Kira explains. "In the end, we only got one, but the name stuck."

Since arriving on December 6th, Goose has made it clear he's a family member with opinions, preferences, and plenty of mischief.

Goose has mastered being spoiled. "He has multiple cozy spots around the house and usually prefers the laser pointer or a ride on my mom's dog when she visits."

His most impressive skill? The guilt-inducing stare. "He's figured out if he stares at us long enough he'll eventually be fed...again," Kira notes.

But Goose's favorite activity? Toilet paper chaos. "He absolutely loves unrolling it and turning the house into his personal playground," Kira says. He also loves surprise attacks, hiding under blankets to grab unsuspecting legs. "The entire household has become cautious walking by blankets on the floor."

Behind Goose's antics lies healing. The Allert family had said goodbye to their beloved Maine Coon, Sam, in June 2024 after 16 wonderful years. "When we met Goose, we knew he was meant to be part of our family," Kira reflects.

The decision has proven perfect. Seven-year-old Jack and five-year-old Luke have bonded with their new companion, though he's "getting too heavy for them to carry around."

"He's brought energy and personality into our home," Kira says, and it's evident this Top Gun-named kitten has found his perfect squadron in Forest Ridge.
