Rooted in Family, Growing in Community
In Forest Ridge’s Stanford’s Landing, it’s not uncommon to find neighbors who feel like family. But for the Quickle and Koleber families, that connection is literal. With two generations living just 38 seconds apart, their story is one of deep roots, shared passions, and a whole lot of love.
Megan and Joe Quickle, married for 20 years, live just moments away from Megan’s parents, Kim and Mel Koleber, who recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Together, they represent two generations in Forest Ridge, blending tradition with a vibrant, modern family life.
A Home Full of Heart (and Pets!)
Life in their homes is anything but quiet. The Quickles are proud caretakers of what they affectionately call the “Q Zoo,” which includes a teacup Saint Bernard named Apfelstrudel, a rescued American Bully named Rhubarb, and several cats rescued from the Broken Arrow shelter. Just down the way, Kim and Mel enjoy the company of their beloved cat, Gracie Joy.
A Family Mission: Advocacy and Impact
At the core of this family’s identity is a powerful shared mission: advocating for those living with type 1 diabetes. Megan was diagnosed just before her third birthday, and since 1997, the family has turned that challenge into purpose. From local initiatives to national advocacy on Capitol Hill, their efforts have spanned decades and made a meaningful impact.
They’ve worked with organizations such as the American Diabetes Association, JDRF, and the Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition, and even launched their own initiatives, including Turn Tulsa Blue and Megan’s Touch. Kim has written front-page op-eds, helped establish the State Diabetes Caucus, and spoken to legislators countless times, while Megan has built a career in nonprofit advocacy and even shared her story on national television.
For them, advocacy isn’t occasional—it’s daily. Whether through conversation, education, or policy work, they are committed to ensuring those with diabetes have access to life-saving tools and, ultimately, a cure.
The Kitchen Is Their Happy Place
Ask any member of the family where they feel most at home, and the answer is simple: the kitchen.
Cooking is their shared love language, and every member brings something special to the table. Joe is known for his international cuisine and smoker skills, while Mel, who once worked as a chef, masters the grill with his signature steaks and homemade dressings. Kim is the queen of comfort food, famous for her gumbo and chicken spaghetti. Megan, a passionate home cook, has also taken on the role of birthday cake creator, crafting stunning desserts like apricot with peanut butter and Black Forest raspberry.
Their meals are more than just food. They are experiences. Dinner parties, themed Thanksgiving feasts (now in their 12th year), and holiday traditions filled with macaroni and cheese, “angelic eggs,” and ham bring loved ones together around the table. “It’s all about showing love through food,” they say. And it shows.
Music, Travel, and Shared Joys
Music is another thread that ties this family together. From the classic sounds of Bread, Boston, and Earth, Wind & Fire to a shared love of The Beatles and Paul McCartney (whom they’ve seen live six times!), their homes are always filled with sound, often played on a beloved record player.
When it comes to travel, the Quickles proudly embrace their identity as “Disney Adults,” making annual trips to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. For Kim and Mel, the call of adventure often leads overseas, with memorable trips across Europe and a special fondness for river cruises and great wine.
Rooted in Community
Both families are deeply committed to their community, supporting causes that range from diabetes advocacy to fighting food insecurity, homelessness, and animal welfare. Their involvement extends into civic engagement as well, having worked on local and national political campaigns to help ensure every voice is heard.
Life in Forest Ridge
The Quickles have called Forest Ridge home for 11 years, while the Kolebers joined just over a year ago. Together, they’ve found something truly special. “It’s a little oasis from the city,” they share. “Wonderful, caring neighbors—and being so close to family makes it even better.”
In a neighborhood known for its strong sense of community, the Quickle and Koleber families stand out, not just for their shared address, but for their shared purpose, generosity, and the warmth they bring to everyone around them.
