The Woman Behind One of Broken Arrow's Favorite Salons
When Bailey Hughes first entered the beauty industry, she simply wanted to help people feel confident. She loved the creativity of hairstyling and the relationships that naturally formed while sitting behind the chair. What she didn't know at the time was that her career would grow into something much bigger than hair.
Today, Bailey is the owner of After Fx Salon Co., a thriving business with two Broken Arrow locations that has become known not only for exceptional beauty services but also for investing in people. Whether she's serving guests, mentoring young stylists, or giving back to the community, Bailey has built a business where relationships come first.
Originally from Claremore, Bailey moved to Broken Arrow after attending cosmetology school and beginning her career as a hairstylist. Over the past two decades, Broken Arrow has become home, where she has built both her business and her family. As a mother of three, she understands the balancing act of entrepreneurship and family life, and she credits the values she learned growing up in a close-knit community for shaping the way she leads today.
Bailey purchased After Fx Salon Co. in 2011 after working there as both a stylist and esthetician. At the time, she was a young mom with ambitious dreams and a determination to create something meaningful. As the salon continued to grow, she realized her greatest passion wasn't simply building a successful business. It was helping others discover their own potential.
That passion inspired her to expand beyond one location and create an associate training and mentorship program designed to help beauty professionals grow both personally and professionally. Bailey loves watching new stylists develop confidence, strengthen their communication skills, achieve financial stability, and reach milestones like buying their first car or first home. For her, those victories are every bit as rewarding as a beautiful haircut or color transformation.
Guests certainly leave After Fx looking their best, but Bailey believes the experience goes much deeper than appearance.
"People may come to salons to look a certain way," she says. "But I believe they come to After Fx to feel a certain way."
That philosophy is woven into every part of the salon experience. Bailey has intentionally created a culture that combines luxury service with genuine warmth. Ongoing education, leadership development, teamwork, and mentorship are priorities, creating an environment where both guests and team members feel valued.
Community involvement is another cornerstone of Bailey's business. Throughout the years, After Fx has participated in school supply drives, back-to-school haircut events, local sponsorships, charity initiatives, and countless opportunities to support fellow small businesses. Bailey believes strong communities are built when neighbors choose to invest in one another, and she encourages everyone to shop local whenever possible.
Her advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, and really anyone pursuing a goal, is simple: stay consistent, continue learning, and always treat people with kindness.
"Success rarely happens overnight," Bailey says. "Most businesses, careers, and even personal growth are built slowly through showing up consistently, treating people well, and continuing to learn."
Looking ahead, Bailey remains passionate about elevating the beauty industry by creating meaningful career opportunities and supportive workplaces where professionals can thrive. But no matter how much her business grows, her focus remains the same: helping people feel seen, cared for, and confident.
For Bailey, beautiful hair is only the beginning. The real transformation happens when people leave believing in themselves.
