Denton Movie Tavern

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t enjoy a night out at the movies. For starters, there’s always something amazing to watch—whether it was last summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine or more recent releases like Wicked, Nosferatu, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, or A Minecraft Movie. The sound makes your seat vibrate. The visuals on the screen are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
And since every seat in the theater is full, the shared energy of people laughing, crying, cheering, or gasping makes each big moment feel that much bigger. Few places capture that electric atmosphere quite like Denton Movie Tavern.
“The best times for me are when we have full theaters watching a comedy. I can walk by and hear everyone laughing together,” General Manager Chris Carter said. “That’s easily one of the best moments for me … you can’t get much better than that.”
Marketing Director Megan Martinez agreed.
“One of our food runners wore a pedometer during opening night for the Avengers movie. By the end of the night, the pedometer read 28,000 steps,” she said. “It’s a fun experience, and you can’t help but want more of it.”
Chris and Megan are perfect examples of that last statement. Chris has worked at movie theaters in various capacities since he was 16. He applied to Denton Movie Tavern when it opened in 2005 and was hired on the spot—starting as a projectionist before moving up to General Manager. Meanwhile, Megan quickly tells everyone that she’s been coming to Denton Movie Tavern since she was 12. She’s worked there for the past six years and is happiest when she can spread the word about her favorite job in the community. She has even started a “Popping into the Community” series to thank other local businesses and their staff for all they do in the community with passes and popcorn. Community members can call and contact Megan if they would like Denton Movie Tavern to visit them next.
It’s easy to see why Chris and Megan are so invested. Sure, the movies are great. But Denton Movie Tavern has pioneered a unique cinema-eatery concept that combines in-theater dining with blockbuster entertainment. Instead of just popcorn, soda, and candy, guests can enjoy thin-crust pizza, sandwiches, tasty appetizers, a wide selection of beverages, and even desserts.
Servers bring everything to your seat in the theater, or you can enjoy your meal in the Take Five Lounge.
Along with that are the bells and whistles every movie-goer expects: spacious and comfortable leather recliners, extra legroom between rows, reserved seating, premium large-format screens, and top-tier viewing experiences like SuperScreen DLX.
“Dolby just released a new projector that makes all the colors on the screen even more dynamic. As someone who was a long-time projectionist, that’s a big deal,” Chris said. “And there’s even better technology than that on the way.”
Beyond the screens, seats, sounds, and great food, the people make Denton Movie Tavern feel like the only place you want to be when you want to see your favorite movie. Many of the staff have been there for years. It shows in the way they treat guests and each other. It’s more than a job—they genuinely love being part of the spirit and vibe Denton Movie Tavern has created.
“Everyone is so close and extremely nice—it’s a family feel everyone wants to experience,” Megan added. “We just want to treat as many people as possible to a great night out at the movies. We want to thank everyone who comes to see us already, and we’re ready for those summer movie nights to get here.”
