Precious Pets
Meet Lisa

Family member names: Tom and Lauri Diamond
Pet name: Lisa
Type of animal/breed: Chihuahua/pug “Chug”
Male or female: Female
Pet’s age: 1.5 years
Where/why did you get your pet?
She was dropped in our cul-de-sac and we were able to capture her with the help of a neighbor. She went to Linda McNatt animal shelter, and did her three-day stray hold, was spayed and we picked her up.
Is there a story behind its name? The family who was able to capture her had a four year-old boy who named her Lisa. When the shelter picked her up, he asked if she could keep her name, and they agreed. When we adopted her, we decided to also keep her name since she would be in the neighborhood where she was named.
Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)? We had recently lost our last two dogs due to old age. When Bella died at 17 years old, we decided to not get another dog until the time was right. Two weeks later Lisa showed up in our driveway at 5 AM barking her little head off at us. We decided Bella must’ve sent her because she knew how sad we were. She is ferocious for such a tiny dog with more energy than any other dog we’ve ever had. She loves to run the fence and play with our neighbor dog, who is probably five times her size. She is super affectionate and loves to sleep with us.
What do you like best about your pet? She has a quirky personality and a cute little underbite. Her eyes are very expressive, and she actually seems to talk to us sometimes.
Any funny stories? We had only had her for a couple of days when we decided she needed a friend, that was just too much energy. So, we took her to Linda McNatt animal shelter and tried on several different dogs. We were there for over an hour and nothing was right, but as we were leaving, a woman came in with a dachshund Chihuahua mix she had picked up off the street. The shelter refused to take him because he was the wrong jurisdiction. But he was perfect for Lisa! We went out to the parking lot and the woman gave us the little dog and we brought him home. Now we have Luke and Lisa who are inseparable, a Chug and a Chiweenie.

What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family? Lisa and Luke have both filled the void that we felt when we lost Bella and Buddy. We had had them for 16 and 17 years so there was a huge hole left when they passed. They were big dogs and we never had small dogs before so it’s been a lot of fun to have dogs that we can pick up and love on and enjoy their tiny energy.
