A Gold’s Summer Breeze on Havenly Farm
A Tale of a Tennessee Walking Horse
In the heart of Fulbrook, many of you have taken walks down James Lane and witnessed this majestic beauty behind the gates of Havenly Farm. Her name is Gold’s Summer Breeze, or simply Summer. There lies a story of connection, growth, and the simple joys of rural living that carries a special bond between her and her owner Kayleen.
How old is Summer?
She was born in 2006 which makes her middle-aged, like me!
When and how did she become part of your family?
I had purchased my other horse Wilson’s Stardust Echo, aka. Duster a couple of years before I bought Summer. One day my husband got on Duster and said, “I want this horse!” So I went looking for my heart horse. I wanted a Heritage Certified Tennessee Walking Horse, because of their gentle, even temperament, soundness and smooth-running walk gait. I found a breeder with two mares for sale in Illinois and bought Summer sight unseen. She was just three years old at the time.
What’s the story behind the name Gold’s ‘Summer’ Breeze?
We don’t know how she got the name, but the name is why we chose her.
What's the one trait or behavior that makes Summer stand out from the rest?
Summer truly is my heart horse. She is part of me. I swear she can read my mind and is completely in tune with my emotions. The breeder who sold her to me told me she was “born broke”. That means she never required a lot of training or conditioning, she just wanted to please and intuitively knew how to do that.
Does she have any unique talents or tricks?
Summer has an amazing calm temperament. Our farm, Havenly Farm is a photo venue, and we offer pictures with our horses. Summer is so even-tempered we put Quinceanera's in massive gowns and even pregnant mamas in ruffled gowns on her for exquisite portraits. We have people come from Florida, California, New York and all over Texas for this unique experience.
Does she have any favorite treats?
Summer has never met a treat she didn’t like. We have to give her low-sugar treats now since she has been diagnosed as insulin resistant.
Tell us about your favorite memory with Summer.
I have so many great memories with her. She is game for anything! We sorted cattle, soaked up the ocean air on beach rides, carried flags for videos, horse shows and explored almost all of Fulshear before houses were built. We love galloping down Bessie’s Creek, and you might even catch a glimpse of us loping along the FM1093 green belts.
Where does Summer love to hang out in the neighborhood?
She loves to be out in our pasture grazing under the shade of the big Live Oaks. Every once in a while, we ride into Fulbrook or Fulbrook on Fulshear Creek. Summer loves to meet the young children who come out to see us pass by.
If she could choose any adventure to go on, what would it be?
Summer loves to get out on a trail just about anywhere. We trailer up to 7IL Ranch in Cat Springs and even done trail competitions there. She always looks forward to our Bessie’s Creek rides and simply loves Fulbrook and is happy to call this place home.
